LCSD’s “Hong Kong Artists” Series: Piano Recital by Anson Wong to be staged in July (with photos)

     The Leisure and Cultural Services Department’s “Hong Kong Artists” Series will present a piano recital by Anson Wong in July, in which the rising pianist will perform a number of solo pieces of classical music, with a composition arranged on his own, to showcase his musical talent and outstanding piano technique.

     This recital programme covers JanáÄ�ek’s “In the Mists”, Schubert’s “Geistliche Lieder, S. 562, No. 1, ‘Litanei auf das Fest Aller Seelen'” (transcription by Liszt), Beethoven’s “Piano Sonata No. 28 in A, Op. 101” and Schumann’s “Symphonic Études, Op. 13” (with 5 posthumous variations). Wong will also perform his transcription of Mahler’s “Symphony No. 5, IV. Adagietto” for piano solo. 

     Wong studied piano, bassoon and composition at the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts (HKAPA) since the age of 9, and received his bachelor’s degree with First Class Honours from the HKAPA. He is pursuing a master’s degree at the Royal Academy of Music in the United Kingdom. Wong has received numerous international prizes, including the grand prize at the International Music Competition of the Hong Kong Generation Next Arts, the Silver prize of the International Chopin Piano Competition in Asia, and the Gold Prize Award in the Ishikawa International Piano Competition. He has given solo recitals and concerts in Tokyo, Seoul, London, Vienna and Salzburg, among others. 

     The “Hong Kong Artists” Series: Piano Recital by Anson Wong will be staged at 8pm on July 4 (Friday) at the Theatre of Hong Kong City Hall.      The “Hong Kong Artists” Series of the LCSD aims to provide a platform for local artists to showcase their remarkable talent. In addition to individual performances, it also encourages cross-genre works to highlight their unique styles. This year’s series will introduce 10 distinguished musicians in six stunning programmes, featuring violin, piano, cello, guzheng and vocal arts. Occupational safety and health training courses open for applications

     The Occupational Safety and Health Training Centre of the Labour Department (LD) will launch a wide range of occupational safety and health training courses from July to September in 2025. The courses aim to enhance the working population’s awareness of occupational safety and health, as well as their understanding of the legal requirements and standards stipulated in occupational safety and health regulations.
      
     The training courses cover a wide range of topics, including:
      

  1. Major Safety and Health Regulations related to Industrial Accident Prevention and Their Latest Amendments
  2. Safety Management Regulation and Safety Inspection Programme and Accident/Incident Investigation
  3. Major Safety Regulations related to Accident Prevention on Work in Confined Spaces and other Safety Regulations related to Risk Assessment
  4. Major Safety Regulations related to Accident Prevention in Logistics Industry (including Use of Tail Lifts) and the latest revised Guidance Notes on Prevention of Trapping Hazard of Tail Lifts (new course)
  5. Industrial Accident Cases Analysis and Related Safety Regulations and Major Safety and Health Regulations related to Employees’ Duties (with one class to be conducted in English)
  6. Safety Regulations on Working in times of Inclement Weather and Hot Environment
  7. A Brief Introduction to Safety Regulations and Codes of Practice related to Construction Work (including Renovation, Maintenance, Alteration and Addition Works) 
  8. Major Safety Regulations related to Accident Prevention on Working at Height (including Truss-out Bamboo Scaffolds and Suspended Working Platforms) and Codes of Practice on Scaffolds and Suspended Working Platforms (including the latest revised Code of Practice for Bamboo Scaffolding Safety)
  9. Major Safety Regulations related to Accident Prevention on Lifting Work (including Tower and Mobile Cranes) and Codes of Practice for Safe Use of Tower and Mobile Cranes
  10. Loadshifting Machinery Regulation and Safe Use of Power-operated Elevating Work Platform and Common Heavy Machinery
  11. Major Safety Regulations related to Accident Prevention in Catering Trade
  12. Occupational Safety and Health Ordinance and Regulation (with one class to be conducted in English)
  13. Safety Regulations on Manual Handling Operations
  14. Dangerous Substances Regulations
  15. Health Hints on the Use of Computer and More Exercise Smart Work
  16. Occupational Stress and Happy Workplace
  17. First Aid in the Workplace
  18. Strategies for the Prevention of Occupational Diseases and Work and Healthy Lifestyle
 
     Unless otherwise specified, the courses will mainly be conducted in Cantonese at the LD’s Occupational Safety and Health Training Centre, 13/F, KOLOUR Tsuen Wan I, 68 Chung On Street, Tsuen Wan. Enrolment is free.

Missing man in Wong Tai Sin located

15th National Games Fencing test event concludes

     The National Games Coordination Office (Hong Kong) (NGCO) said today (June 1) that the 15th National Games (NG) Fencing test event held at Kai Tak Arena, Kai Tak Sports Park on May 31 and June 1 has concluded.
 
     The two-day test event, which was also the Challenge Cups Fencing Championships, consisted of men’s and women’s épée, foil and sabre competitions featuring the open and veteran divisions. Over 500 athletes competed in all six event categories.
 
     The test event covered a wide array of testing areas, including event operations and procedures, competition organisation, venue setup, sports and prize presentations, information systems, medical services, volunteer services and broadcast arrangements.
 
     The Head of the NGCO, Mr Yeung Tak-keung, said that this test event is the first fencing event ever held in the Kai Tak Sports Park. Both venue facilities and competition arrangements have achieved the expected results. Since last November, Hong Kong has completed test events for all eight NG competition events. The General Administration of Sport of China has recently announced the competition schedule for the 15th NG, and the competition events in Hong Kong will be held from October 31 to November 20. The NGCO is making thorough preparations for the events. Mr Yeung also expressed gratitude to all related government departments and organisations for their assistance and support.
