Franchised bus services to generally return to normal next week

The Transport Department (TD) said today (April 29) that to align with the Government's announcement that public services will gradually return to normal from next week, all franchised bus companies will resume and operate their services as scheduled during peak hours from May 4 to cater for the commuting needs of passengers.

Except for the continued suspensions and service adjustments of some routes (e.g. those serving tourists and those travelling to land-based boundary control points and the airport), the TD has requested franchised bus companies to return the service frequencies of their bus routes back to the pre-COVID-19 levels in response to passenger demand.  As for individual bus routes with patronage on the low side, their frequencies during day time off-peak hours and after 9 pm will continue to be temporarily extended by no more than five minutes and 10 minutes respectively.  But the extended frequencies should not exceed 30 minutes.  The franchised bus companies should closely monitor passenger demand, and flexibly adjust frequencies when necessary.

The TD will maintain close liaison with franchised bus companies, and will closely monitor the operation of all bus routes to follow up on the bus services to meet passenger needs.
