The Chief Executive in Council has approved the draft South Lantau Coast Outline Zoning Plan (OZP).

"The approved OZP provides a statutory land use planning framework to guide the development and redevelopment in the South Lantau Coast area", a spokesman for the Town Planning Board said today (May 24).

The planning scheme area covers a total of about 2 456 hectares of land along the South Lantau Coast. It is almost all bounded by the Lantau South Country Park (the Country Park) in the north and the existing coastlines in the south. Some parts of the Country Park also fall within the planning scheme area.

The approved OZP has incorporated amendments shown on the draft South Lantau Coast OZP No. S/SLC/22, which mainly involve (i) rezoning two sites in Pui O and Shui Hau from "Coastal Protection Area" ("CPA"), "Other Specified Uses" annotated "Waterworks Pumping Station" and/or "Country Park" to "Conservation Area" to reflect the planning intentions to conserve the natural habitats; (ii) rezoning two sites in Pui O and Mong Tung Wan from "CPA" and "Green Belt" respectively to "Recreation" to facilitate low-impact leisure and recreational uses; (iii) zoning amendments to reflect the as-built conditions of the existing facilities and other planned developments; (iv) rationalisation of zoning boundaries to address the differences with the Country Park; and (v) incorporation of an area to the northwest of Fan Lau Sai Wan into the planning scheme area.

The Notes and Explanatory Statement of the OZP are amended to take into account the above amendments. Opportunity is also taken to update the general information of various land use zonings and the planning circumstances, where appropriate.

The approved South Lantau Coast OZP No. S/SLC/23 is available for public inspection during office hours at (i) the Secretariat of the Town Planning Board, (ii) the Planning Enquiry Counters, (iii) the Sai Kung and Islands District Planning Office, (iv) the Islands District Offices, (v) the South Lantao Rural Committee, and (vi) the Tai O Rural Committee.

Copies of the approved OZP are available for sale at the Map Publications Centres in North Point and Yau Ma Tei. The electronic version of the OZP can be viewed at the Town Planning Board's website (www.tpb.gov.hk).
