Correctional officer of Stanley Prison tests preliminarily positive for COVID-19

     The Stanley Prison today (February 16) learned that a correctional officer has tested preliminarily positive for COVID-19.

     The staff member responsible for visit registration service underwent COVID-19 testing yesterday. He was notified that he had tested preliminarily positive today. He last performed duties on February 14. The staff member has no recent travel history. He has been wearing surgical masks when performing duties and has properly maintained social distancing with people he has had contact with. His body temperature was normal when undergoing temperature screening at work and he did not have any symptoms.

      Colleagues who work with the staff member concerned have no symptoms for the time being. The Correctional Services Department (CSD) has liaised with the Centre for Health Protection (CHP) and followed the advice given which includes arranging COVID-19 testing for the staff concerned, as well as conducting a thorough cleaning and disinfection at the relevant locations. As such, official visit service of Stanley Prison will be suspended tomorrow (February 17).

     The CSD will continue to maintain close liaison with the CHP, and actively co-operate with the CHP's quarantine arrangements. The CSD has also reminded its staff to pay attention to personal hygiene and stay vigilant. Staff have been reminded to seek medical advice and inform the department as soon as possible if feeling unwell.
