Appointments to Board of Directors of Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation

The Government today (June 30) announced that the Chief Executive has re-appointed Dr Sunny Chai as Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation (HKSTPC) for two years starting from July 1, 2020.

The Secretary for Innovation and Technology, Mr Alfred Sit, said, “In the past two years, Dr Chai has been leading the HKSTPC to actively support the development of local technology enterprises. A number of innovation and technology (I&T) infrastructure projects and initiatives have been launched progressively to enhance the local I&T ecosystem. We believe that under Dr Chai’s leadership, the Corporation will continue to develop research-related facilities, enhance support for the technology companies in the Science Park, start the Phase II expansion programme of the Science Park, and more.”

The Government also announced the appointment of three new members and re-appointment of eight serving members by the Financial Secretary for a period of two years from July 1, 2020.

Mr Chen Shuang, Dr Stephanie Ma and Mr Daryl Ng are appointed as new board members of the HKSTPC.

Mr Herbert Chia, Mr Donald Choi, Mr Dennis Ho, Mr Jimmy Ng, Mr Joseph Ngai, Mr Gavin Poon, Professor Sean Tang and Mr Denis Tse are re-appointed as board members of the HKSTPC.

Mr Sit said, “The Corporation is well served by a Board of Directors with a good mix of expertise from different fields. Their extensive experience and knowledge can steer the effective fulfilment of the public mission of the HKSTPC. We are confident that the Board will help the Corporation further reinforce Hong Kong’s position as a regional I&T hub.”

The tenure of two incumbent board members, Mr Theodore Ma and Professor Tsui Lap-chee, will expire on June 30 this year.

“In the past six years, the two outgoing members have actively participated in the work of the Board and have contributed valuably to the development of the local I&T ecosystem. The achievements of the Corporation are due in no small measure to their guidance and wise counsel,” Mr Sit said.

The HKSTPC, which began operation in 2001, manages the Hong Kong Science Park, three industrial estates and the InnoCentre. It provides a comprehensive range of services to cater for the needs of industry at various stages, including nurturing technology start-ups through its incubation programmes, providing facilities and services for applied research and development activities, and providing land and relevant facilities for production. read more
