HAD to open temporary night heat shelters

     The Home Affairs Department will open 19 temporary night heat shelters tonight (July 17) for people in need of the service.

     The shelters will be open from 10.30pm until 8am tomorrow.

Government to sell site in Sai Kung by public tender

     The Lands Department (LandsD) announced today (July 17) that a site, Lot No. 1003 in Demarcation District No. 214 at Hiram’s Highway near Heung Chung Road, Ho Chung, Sai Kung, New Territories, in the 2020-21 Land Sale Programme will be disposed of by public tender. The tender invitation for the lot will commence on July 24 and close on August 21.
            
     Lot No. 1003 in Demarcation District No. 214 has a site area of about 3,563 square metres and is designated for private residential purposes. The minimum gross floor area is 3,207 sq m and the maximum gross floor area that may be attained is 5,344 sq m.
      
     Land sale documents including the Form of Tender, the Tender Notice, the Conditions of Sale and the sale plan of the lot will be available for downloading from the LandsD website (www.landsd.gov.hk), and the sale plan will be available for distribution and inspection by the public from July 24, when the particulars of the tender will also be gazetted.    read more

Grading of beach water quality released

     The Environmental Protection Department (EPD) today (July 17) released the latest grading of water quality for 38 gazetted beaches (see Note 1) and one non-gazetted beach (i.e. Discovery Bay, see Note 2).     
        
     Twenty-three beaches were rated as Good (Grade 1), 10 as Fair (Grade 2) and six as Poor (Grade 3).
 
Grade 1 beaches are:

     Under the present grading system, beaches are classified into four grades, namely Good (Grade 1), Fair (Grade 2), Poor (Grade 3) and Very Poor (Grade 4), according to the level of E. coli in the water. Grades are calculated on the basis of the geometric mean of the E. coli counts on the five most recent sampling occasions.
      
     A summary of beach grades is published weekly before the weekend. The latest beach grades based on the most current data may be obtained from the EPD’s website on Beach Water Quality (www.epd.gov.hk/epd/beach) or the beach hotline, 2511 6666.
 
Note 1: In view of the latest situation of COVID-19, the Leisure and Cultural Services Department announced on July 13 that all beaches would be temporarily closed from July 15 until further notice.
 
Note 2: Discovery Bay is a non-gazetted beach without lifeguard service. read more
