The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority.

Regarding an earlier announcement on a cluster of residents infected with Rhinovirus/Enterovirus in a ward of Developmental Disabilities Unit, Paediatrics and Adolescent Medicine Department, the spokesperson for Caritas Medical Centre made the following update today (December 6):

Two female residents, one male resident (aged 12 to 17) and four staff members of the ward had presented with upper respiratory symptoms since December 2. Appropriate tests had been arranged for the three patients and their test results were positive for Rhinovirus/Enterovirus. The residents concerned have been treated under isolation and are in stable condition. Three staff had recovered while the other staff member is currently on sick leave.

Infection control measures have already been stepped up according to established guidelines. All other residents in the ward are still under close surveillance.

The cases have been reported to the Hospital Authority Head Office and the Centre for Health Protection for necessary follow-up.
