FEHD orders restaurant in Yuen Long to suspend business for 14 days

The Director of Food and Environmental Hygiene has ordered a general restaurant in Yuen Long to suspend business for 14 days, as the operator repeatedly breached the Food Business Regulation (FBR) by extending the business area illegally and preparing food and storing equipment or utensils in an open space.

The restaurant, Prideway Hinge Kitchen, located at Shop G, and the Outside Seating Accommodation at the shop front on the ground floor of Lucky Mansion, 2 Chun Yin Square, Yuen Long, was ordered to suspend business from today (June 24) to July 7.

“During last November and this March, two convictions for the above-mentioned breaches were recorded against the shop. A total fine of $5,500 was levied by the court and 15 demerit points were registered against the licensee under the department’s demerit points system. The contraventions resulted in the 14-day licence suspension,” a spokesman for the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department (FEHD) said.

The licensee of the restaurant had a record of two convictions for extending the business area illegally in January and September last year. A total fine of $4,300 was levied and 30 demerit points were also registered, leading to a seven-day licence suspension during the period from last December to this January.

The spokesman reminded the licensees of food premises to comply with the FBR and other relevant regulations, or their licences could be suspended or cancelled.

Licensed food premises are required to exhibit a sign, at a conspicuous place near the main entrance, indicating that the premises has been licensed. A list of licensed food premises is available on the FEHD’s website (www.fehd.gov.hk/english/licensing/index.html). read more

Deputy Commissioner of Police encourages graduates to inherit mission to safeguard Hong Kong (with photos)

The Deputy Commissioner of Police (Operations), Mr Yuen Yuk-kin, inspected the passing-out parade as Reviewing Officer at the Hong Kong Police College today (June 24). He encouraged all graduates to uphold their faith in starting a police career, inherit the spirit of the Force, and continue to safeguard the country and Hong Kong.

In his speech, Mr Yuen mentioned that he will end his 37-year police career in August. He sincerely thanked the Force for its cultivation and trust in him over the years, and for giving him the opportunity to take up different positions. He is very proud of being able to protect Hong Kong together with his colleagues in the turbulent days with the firmest beliefs.

Describing the police career as a marathon, Mr Yuen believed that to run well, graduates have to work hard to complete the most rigorous training, and also equip themselves with professional tactics, so as to have ability and endurance to complete the decades-long race. He also pointed out that a policing career, like a long-distance running, will be full of challenges, but as long as the graduates can keep their faith, they will be able to overcome all difficulties and move forward.
     â€‹â€‹
He guided the graduates to think about how to uphold police faith: Firstly, to understand the mission of being a policeman, i.e. safeguarding national security; maintaining law and order in Hong Kong and protecting the lives and properties of citizens. Secondly, to accomplish the mission according to the policy directives. The last thing is to be willing to sacrifice to inherit the honour and mission of the Police, just like the predecessors and serving colleagues who have stepped forward when various challenges to Hong Kong’s law and order arise. He added that their selfless dedication is definitely a role model for the graduates, and it is also the spirit that the new generation of the Police needs to pass on.

Mr Yuen said the Force must stay alert to threats and dangers in times of peace as the society is entering a phase of advancing from stability to prosperity. Saying that safeguarding Hong Kong is the Force’s forever mission, he believed that the mission will always be passed on from generation to generation, and the efforts of the Force will definitely ensure the steadfast and successful implementation of “one country, two systems”.

A total of 32 probationary inspectors and 110 recruit police constables passed out today. This is also the first time the Police Band Cadet to join the Police Band to stage music and marching performance at the passing-out parade.

Award presentation for Water Safety Campaign slogan and graphic design competitions held today (with photos)

To enhance public awareness of water safety, the Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD) and the Hong Kong Life Saving Society (HKLSS) jointly organised the Water Safety Campaign 2023 that includes a Chinese slogan competition and a graphic design competition for primary and secondary school students. A prize presentation ceremony was held today (June 24) at the Kowloon Park Arcade. The organisers also set up game stalls at the entrance lobby of Kowloon Park Swimming Pool’s spectator stand to promote water safety.

This year’s entries to the two competitions were ingeniously designed, demonstrating students’ creativity and artistic skills. The organisers have adopted the champion entries in the secondary school sections of both competitions this year for the production of this year’s campaign poster.

Addressing the ceremony, Assistant Director (Leisure Services) of the LCSD Mr Henry Wong said swimming is one of the most popular leisure activities in Hong Kong. There were more than 13 million visits to the public beaches and swimming pools managed by the LCSD last year. He appealed to members of the public to take heed of water safety advice while enjoying the fun of swimming.

Mr Wong said that the theme of the two competitions aimed at urging people to swim at gazetted beaches with lifesaving services, and avoid swimming outside the swimming zone for safety’s sake. He added that swimmers should enter the water only when lifeguard services are provided and they should stay within the swimming zone to avoid accidents.

There are shark prevention nets at the LCSD’s gazetted beaches with lifesaving services. Moreover, areas suitable for swimming are indicated by red or orange boom lines in the beaches and are attended by professional lifeguards. In case of sudden changes in weather conditions, venue staff will immediately alert swimmers through the announcement system to stay out of the water and take a shelter under covered area.

Mr Wong also thanked the HKLSS for actively promoting and organising various lifesaving trainings, examinations and competitions, providing lifesaving services over the years as well as striving to nurture lifesavers so as to maintain lifesaving services for all aquatic venues in Hong Kong and safeguard the lives of swimmers.

The winning entries from the two competitions are now on display at the entrance lobby of Kowloon Park Swimming Pool’s spectator stand until July 6. They can also be viewed on the LCSD webpages at www.lcsd.gov.hk/en/swimhandbook/poster/2023wscgdresult.html (graphic design competition) and www.lcsd.gov.hk/en/swimhandbook/slogan/2023wscslogan.html (Chinese slogan competition).
