Applications for admission tickets for parade by disciplined services and youth groups and fun day in celebration of National Day to begin this week

     The Security Bureau (SB) will lead its disciplined services and auxiliary services, together with youth uniformed groups, to hold the Grand Parade by Disciplined Services and Youth Groups cum Fun Day for Celebrating the 75th Anniversary of the Founding of the People’s Republic of China at the Fire and Ambulance Services Academy in Tseung Kwan O on October 1 (Tuesday). To share in the joy of celebrating National Day, members of the public can register for free admission tickets from Wednesday to Friday (September 11 to 13) on the Hong Kong Fire Services Department mobile application.

     The fun day will be held from 10am to 5pm, with the event highlight being a parade by disciplined services and youth uniformed groups at 2.30pm. A flag-raising ceremony and a parade will be performed by members of the disciplined services from the Hong Kong Police Force, the Immigration Department, the Customs and Excise Department, the Correctional Services Department, the Fire Services Department (FSD), and the Government Flying Service (GFS), as well as youth group members of various disciplined services departments, the Auxiliary Medical Service Cadet Corps and the Civil Aid Service Cadet Corps, and the Hong Kong Army Cadets Association. There will also be an appliance parade by various disciplined services and auxiliary services, along with music performances by their bands.

     In addition, an exhibition and game booths will be hosted by the SB and eight disciplined services and auxiliary services on that day. Rescue and training demonstrations by the FSD, including firefighting and rescue, ambulance training, swift water rescue, high-angle rescue training, compartment fire behaviour training, hazardous material incident training and traffic accident rescue; and the display of GFS aircraft will also be featured, providing members of the public with a rare opportunity to view the equipment up close.

     Members of the public can apply for a maximum of four QR code admission tickets from September 11 to 13 via the latest version of the Hong Kong Fire Services Department mobile application, which can be downloaded from Apple App Store, Google Play and Huawei AppGallery for free. Children aged 3 or below do not require an admission ticket. The tickets will be allocated by a computer ballot, and successful applicants will receive a notification through the application on September 17.

     Visitors are advised to use public transportation, as no parking will be available at the Academy. The event will be cancelled if Tropical Cyclone Warning Signal No. 8 or above is still in force at 8am on the event day. Hong Kong’s presence at International Dragon Boat Federation Club Crew World Championships held in Ravenna, Italy (with photos)

     Attracting over 7 000 athletes and coaches from 30 different countries and regions, along with 50 000 spectators over six days, the 14th International Dragon Boat Federation (IDBF) Club Crew World Championships was held in Ravenna, Italy, from September 3 to 8, 2024, with the support from the government of Emilia-Romagna Region and other institutional partners and businesses in Italy. A total of five club teams from Hong Kong with over 200 athletes participated in this championships.

     The Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in Brussels (HKETO, Brussels) sponsored the championship to further strengthen Hong Kong’s presence in Italian sports and cultural events, as well as to promote Hong Kong as the capital of mega events.  

     At the VIP dinner held on September 7 (Ravenna time) in Ravenna, Deputy Representative of HKETO, Brussels Miss Fiona Li thanked the Hong Kong teams for demonstrating the “Hong Kong spirit” during the race. She said that the Government of Hong Kong Special Administrative Region is committed to supporting Hong Kong athletes and promoting sports, citing Hong Kong’s historic achievement of home-grown athletes capturing two gold medals and two bronze medals at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games, as well as outstanding results at the Paralympics Games. 
      
     The IDBF will also organise the Asian Championships in Hong Kong in October 2024 and the World Championships in Hong Kong in 2027. Not surprised by Hong Kong being chosen to host these events, Miss Li invited guests at the dinner to visit Hong Kong. “The upcoming dragon boat championships will be the perfect opportunity for you to visit Hong Kong and experience Hong Kong’s unique glamour,” she said.

     In the coming months, Hong Kong will host a great number of international sports tournaments such as the Hong Kong Cyclothon and Harbour Race; arts and cultural showcases including the debut Hong Kong Performing Arts Expo; and business conferences including Fintech Week and Hong Kong Maritime Week and many more. “You will be amazed by our museums, food, nature, architecture, markets, shopping, attractions, events and so much more,” Miss Li added. 
      
     HKETO, Brussels has been sponsoring dragon boat races in different cities across Europe to promote Hong Kong’s presence, including Antwerp in Belgium, and Barcelona in Spain.
