     The Commissioner for Digital Policy, Mr Tony Wong, and a delegation from Hong Kong’s cybersecurity industry today (September 9) continued to attend the main venue events of 2024 China Cybersecurity Week in Nansha, Guangzhou. Mr Wong gave a speech on the latest cybersecurity strategies and developments of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) Government, with the topic “Building strong digital security barrier, Developing Digital Greater Bay Area”, at the Cybersecurity Technology Summit cum Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA) Cybersecurity Conference.

     Mr Wong said that the HKSAR Government adopts a multi-pronged approach to safeguard Hong Kong’s cybersecurity, thereby providing a safe and stable Internet environment for Hong Kong’s digital development, ensuring that the government’s information technology infrastructure, systems and information are safe and reliable, as well as enhancing public and corporate awareness of cybersecurity.

     He said that in order to achieve the relevant objectives, the HKSAR Government will strengthen community promotion and support, foster closer collaboration with the Mainland and international counterparts and actively cultivate the relevant talent.

     Mr Wong emphasised, “Hong Kong strives to build a safe and stable Internet environment, raise cybersecurity awareness and resilience capabilities among the industry and the public, with a view to integrating into the development of the national GBA, and building Hong Kong into an international innovation and technology centre.”

     Before returning to Hong Kong, the delegation also met with a student exchange group from Hong Kong at the Cybersecurity Expo, and encouraged the students to excel by enhancing their understanding of cybersecurity.

     The HKSAR Government has consistently supported China Cybersecurity Week activities over the years and has worked together with stakeholders to promote and strengthen public awareness of cybersecurity. In addition to the delegation’s participation in Cybersecurity Week events and the setting up of the Hong Kong Pavilion at the Cybersecurity Expo, the Digital Policy Office is collaborating with industry stakeholders to organise the 2024 Cybersecurity Awareness Campaign this year, with the theme “Together, We Create a Safe Cyberworld” to echo that of China Cybersecurity Week.

     The 2024 Cybersecurity Awareness Campaign includes the Cybersecurity Week Fun Day, a seminar and tram body design contest award ceremony, and the Cybersecurity Week Hong Kong Sub-forum. By organising exhibitions, games, seminars and providing relevant learning resources , the campaign seeks to foster a more comprehensive and in-depth understanding about cybersecurity in the community. The following is issued on behalf of the Legislative Council Secretariat:
 
     The delegation of the Legislative Council Panel on Transport will depart for Shanghai and Hangzhou tomorrow (September 10) to conduct a four-day duty visit.

     The objectives of the duty visit are for Members to better understand the latest situation of Yangtze River Delta Region regarding the development of smart mobility, smart traffic management, development and application of autonomous vehicles, as well as the adoption of electric and hydrogen-powered vehicles in public transport routes. During the visit, Members will exchange views with representatives of relevant departments of municipal governments on the development of smart mobility and new energy transportation in Hong Kong, Shanghai and Hangzhou.

     The delegation will visit the following places and organizations from September 10 to 13:
 

• Shanghai Lingang Hydrogen-powered Medium-capacity T3 Line
• Shanghai Lingang Special Area of the Shanghai Pilot Free Trade Zone
• Shanghai Baidu’s Apollo Park

     The delegation is led by the Chairman of the Panel, Dr Chan Han-pan. Other participating members include the Deputy Chairman of the Panel, Mr Dominic Lee, and Panel members Mr Michael Tien, Mr Frankie Yick, Mr Leung Man-kwong, Mr Chan Siu-hung, Mr Chan Hok-fung, and Mr Yim Kong; as well as non-Panel members Mr Holden Chow and Mr Lau Kwok-fan.      The Transport Department (TD) today (September 9) reminded members of the public that the following temporary traffic and transport arrangements will be implemented on the East Kowloon Corridor northbound and Kai Tak Tunnel (Kwun Tong bound) from about 0.01am to 6.30am on September 15 and 29 to facilitate a film shooting:
 
(A) Road closures
 ———————

     The following road sections will be temporarily closed to all vehicular traffic:

• all traffic lanes of East Kowloon Corridor northbound;
• the slip road of East Kowloon Corridor northbound to Kowloon City Road northbound; and
• all traffic lanes of Kai Tak Tunnel (Kwun Tong bound).

 
(B) Traffic diversions
 ————————–

     During the full closure of East Kowloon Corridor northbound and Kai Tak Tunnel (Kwun Tong bound), the following traffic diversions will be implemented:
 

• Vehicles travelling along Chatham Road North northbound heading to Kowloon City Road northbound, via East Kowloon Corridor northbound and the slip road to Kowloon City Road, are advised to travel via Chatham Road North northbound, Ma Tau Wai Road northbound, Chi Kiang Street eastbound, Ha Heung Road northbound, Sheung Heung Road westbound and then return to the original route;
• Vehicles travelling along Chatham Road North northbound heading to Sung Wong Toi Road westbound, via East Kowloon Corridor northbound, Kai Tak Tunnel (Kwun Tong bound) and the slip road to Sung Wong Toi Road, are advised to travel via Chatham Road North northbound, Ma Tau Wai Road northbound, Chi Kiang Street eastbound, Ha Heung Road northbound, Sheung Heung Road westbound, Kowloon City Road northbound and then return to the original route;
• Vehicles travelling along Chatham Road North northbound heading to Kai Cheung Road eastbound, via East Kowloon Corridor northbound and Kai Tak Tunnel (Kwun Tong bound), are advised to travel via Chatham Road North northbound, Ma Tau Wai Road northbound, Ma Tau Chung Road northbound, Prince Edward Road East northbound, Kwun Tong Road southbound, Wai Yip Street southbound, Kai Fuk Road westbound and return to the original route;
• Vehicles travelling along Chatham Road North northbound heading to Kai Fuk Road eastbound, via East Kowloon Corridor northbound and Kai Tak Tunnel (Kwun Tong bound), are advised to travel via Chatham Road North northbound, Ma Tau Wai Road northbound, Ma Tau Chung Road northbound, Prince Edward Road East northbound, Kwun Tong Road southbound, Wai Yip Street southbound, Kai Fuk Road westbound, Kai Cheung Road eastbound, Kai Shing Street northbound, Kai Wah Street eastbound, Wang Kwong Road southbound, Kai Cheung Road westbound and then return to the original route; and
• Vehicles travelling along Chatham Road North northbound heading to Kwun Tong Bypass eastbound, via East Kowloon Corridor northbound and Kai Tak Tunnel (Kwun Tong bound), are advised to travel via Chatham Road North northbound, Ma Tau Wai Road northbound, Ma Tau Chung Road northbound, Prince Edward Road East northbound and then return to the original route.

 
(C) Bus and green minibus (GMB) route diversions
 ———————

     During the full closure of East Kowloon Corridor northbound and Kai Tak Tunnel (Kwun Tong bound), the northbound departures of KMB route Nos. 13X, 14X, 98D, 213X, 215X, 219X and 296D, Citybus route Nos. 795X and 796P, and Kowloon overnight GMB route No. 62S will be diverted. The bus stop of KMB route No. 13X and 213X at Kai Cheung Road eastbound near Kai Shing Street will be suspended. For other bus and GMB routes, en-route stops will not be affected.      The public transport operators will display notices to advise passengers on the special arrangements. Appropriate diversion signs will also be erected on-site to guide motorists.
 
     The TD anticipates that travel times at the road sections concerned will be slightly longer due to the diversion arrangements. Motorists should exercise tolerance and patience. Members of the public are advised to plan their journeys in advance and allow sufficient travel time to account for unexpected delays, and stay alert to the latest traffic news through the media or the TD’s mobile application “HKeMobility” or website (www.td.gov.hk). read more

     In response to the Japanese Government’s plan to discharge nuclear-contaminated water at the Fukushima Nuclear Power Station, the Director of Food and Environmental Hygiene issued a Food Safety Order which prohibits all aquatic products, sea salt and seaweeds originating from the 10 metropolis/prefectures, namely Tokyo, Fukushima, Ibaraki, Miyagi, Chiba, Gunma, Tochigi, Niigata, Nagano and Saitama, from being imported into and supplied in Hong Kong.
 
     For other Japanese aquatic products, sea salt and seaweeds that are not prohibited from being imported into Hong Kong, the Centre for Food Safety (CFS) of the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department will conduct comprehensive radiological tests to verify that the radiation levels of these products do not exceed the guideline levels before they are allowed to be supplied in the market.
 
     As the discharge of nuclear-contaminated water is unprecedented and will continue for 30 years or more, the Government will closely monitor and step up the testing arrangements. Should anomalies be detected, the Government does not preclude further tightening the scope of the import ban.
 
     From noon on September 6 to noon today (September 9), the CFS conducted tests on the radiological levels of 281 food samples imported from Japan, which were of the “aquatic and related products, seaweeds and sea salt” category, in the past three days (including last Saturday and Sunday). No sample was found to have exceeded the safety limit.      In parallel, the Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department (AFCD) has also tested 150 samples of local catch for radiological levels. All the samples passed the tests.      The Hong Kong Observatory (HKO) has also enhanced the environmental monitoring of the local waters. No anomaly has been detected so far. For details, please refer to the HKO’s website

     From August 24, 2023, to noon today, the CFS and the AFCD have conducted tests on the radiological levels of 82 478 samples of food imported from Japan (including 52 859 samples of aquatic and related products, seaweeds and sea salt) and 19 004 samples of local catch respectively. All the samples passed the tests. read more
