     As at 11.30am today (July 14), 507 of the 9 208 registered electors of the San Tin Constituency had cast their votes in the Yuen Long District Council by-election, representing a turnout of 5.51 per cent. (The voter turnout figures are only for temporary reference.)
 
     The polling stations located at Tun Yu School, San Tin, Yuen Long, New Territories and St. Gavriel Kindergarten, 1 San Wai Tsuen, San Tin, Yuen Long, New Territories will remain open until 10.30pm.
 
     A dedicated polling station has been set up at Yuen Long Police Station, 246 Castle Peak Road, Yuen Long, New Territories for electors in the San Tin Constituency who are remanded or detained by law enforcement agencies other than the Correctional Services Department (CSD) to cast their votes. The polling hours are from 7.30am to 10.30pm.
 
     Electors in the constituency who are imprisoned or remanded in the CSD’s custody can cast their votes at five dedicated polling stations set up at their respective penal institutions. For security reasons, the polling hours are from 9am to 4pm. 
 
     Registered electors in the Shap Pat Heung West Constituency of the Yuen Long District Council do not have to vote today because the candidate for the constituency has been returned uncontested.

  

     The Secretary for Education, Mr Kevin Yeung, today (July 14) expressed deep condolences over the passing of the Most Venerable Chi Wai, the Honorary President of the Hong Kong Buddhist Association (HKBA).

     Mr Yeung said, “The Most Venerable Chi Wai has made tremendous contributions to social and charitable services. The HKBA is one of the major school sponsoring bodies in Hong Kong with 13 secondary schools, seven primary schools and eight kindergartens. Upholding the school motto of ‘illumining wisdom and manifesting compassion’, the HKBA emphasises both ‘knowledge’ and ‘moral character’ in promoting the whole-person development of its students. Over the years, numerous young people have benefited from its education service.”

     “I believe that the virtuous deeds of the Most Venerable Chi Wai would continue to encourage students and members of the public at large to join hands to build a caring and loving community.” read more

     The Chief Executive, Mrs Carrie Lam, today (July 14) expressed deep sorrow over the passing of the Honorary President of the Hong Kong Buddhist Association, the Most Venerable Chi Wai.

     “The Most Venerable Chi Wai was held in high regard. He had been committed to promoting Buddhism over the years and actively participating in and advocating social and charitable activities. He was a Hong Kong Deputy to the National People’s Congress, member of the Executive Committee of the New Territories Heung Yee Kuk, District Council member and Vice-Chairman of Tai O Rural Committee, making significant contributions. In addition to taking an active part in education in Hong Kong, he supported the Hopeful School Project to build schools in the Mainland, providing opportunities for numerous kids to attend schools. He was awarded the Silver Bauhinia Star in 2015.

     “I am deeply saddened by the passing of the Most Venerable Chi Wai. On behalf of the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, I would like to extend my deepest condolences to the Buddhist community,” Mrs Lam said. read more
