Hong Kong Customs seizes suspected cocaine (with photo)

â€‹Hong Kong Customs seized about 1 920 grams of suspected cocaine with an estimated market value of about $2.48 million on August 14 at the Hong Kong-Macau Ferry Terminal.

Customs officers conducted customs clearance on an incoming male passenger at the Hong Kong-Macau Ferry Terminal on the evening of August 14 and found the batch of suspected cocaine concealed inside false compartments of his suitcase. The 25-year-old man was then arrested.

It is believed that the suspected cocaine was delivered to Hong Kong via Macau from Philippines. An investigation is ongoing.

Under the Dangerous Drugs Ordinance, trafficking in dangerous drugs is a serious offence. The maximum penalty upon conviction is a fine of $5 million and life imprisonment.

Members of the public may report any suspected drug trafficking activities to Customs’ 24-hour hotline 2545 6182 or its dedicated crime-reporting email account (crimereport@customs.gov.hk).
