The Transport Advisory Committee (TAC) was briefed today (September 24) on the application of different types of at-grade pedestrian crossings in Hong Kong, as well as the current design and improvement measures, with a view to enhancing road safety and walkability.
The Government strives to create a safe and pedestrian-friendly environment in Hong Kong. The TAC noted the various measures implemented by the Transport Department to enhance the safety performance and walkability of at-grade pedestrian crossings. These measures include enhancements to cautionary crossings at signal-controlled junctions, conversion of staggered crossings into straight crossings and the adoption of smart devices for the elderly and persons with disabilities using signalised pedestrian crossings.
The TAC also noted the guiding principles and review mechanism of at-grade pedestrian crossings.
The TAC Chairman, Professor Stephen Cheung, said, "Members support and welcome the Government's efforts in creating a pedestrian-friendly and safe environment."
