SHA meets with Secretary General of Ministry of Education and Culture of Indonesia (with photos)

     The Secretary for Home Affairs, Mr Lau Kong-wah, today (August 20) met with the Secretary General of the Ministry of Education and Culture of Indonesia, Dr Didik Suhardi, in Jakarta, Indonesia.

     Since 2003, Indonesia has participated in the Asia Cultural Co-operation Forum hosted by the Home Affairs Bureau. The Consulate-General of the Republic of Indonesia in Hong Kong supported the Asian Ethnic Cultural Performances organised yearly by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department. Indonesian art groups in Hong Kong can showcase their traditional dance and handcrafts to Hong Kong people in the performance. Hong Kong and Indonesia signed a Memorandum of Understanding on Cultural Co-operation last year. Discussion on enhancing cultural co-operation between Hong Kong and Indonesia was conducted during the meeting today. Mr Lau also called on the Chinese Ambassador to Indonesia, Mr Xiao Qian, to learn more about China's latest developments in Indonesia.

     Mr Lau congratulated Hong Kong athletes on winning four medals, namely one silver and three bronze medals in the Asian Games today. Juanita Mok won a silver medal in the Wushu (Taolu) – Women's Taijiquan & Taijijian all round and Yuen Ka-ying won a bronze medal in the Wushu (Taolu) – Women's Nanquan & Nandao all round. Fencing athletes Liu Yan-wai and Low Ho-tin each won a bronze medal respectively in Women's Individual Foil and Men's Individual Sabre. Mr Lau said the awarded athletes won glory to Hong Kong and he hoped Hong Kong athletes could continue to achieve good results. Mr Lau watched a number of competitions in which Hong Kong athletes were participating at the Asian Games.

     Mr Lau will continue to watch other events with Hong Kong athletes competing tomorrow (August 21) and return to Hong Kong in the afternoon.
