Mascot Cheering Larry to promote Hong Kong Games (with photo)

     â€‹Public voting on the Hong Kong Games (HKG) mascot has completed smoothly, with Cheering Larry selected to promote the Games.
      
     Online voting was conducted in the period between June 26 and July 31 this year, when the public were invited to select their favourite mascot to best represent the HKG from three shortlisted designs. As a result, more than 3 000 votes were received and Cheering Larry received the highest number of votes to become the mascot of the HKG. Cheering Larry will serve as an ambassador to promote the Games.
      
     Cheering Larry is a sports enthusiast who represents liveliness, achievement, record-breaking, rapport and youthfulness. To encourage public participation in the HKG, he will show up in the publicity and community participation programmes of the Games, and he will also cheer on athletes during sports competitions.
      
     District athlete selection for the 8th HKG will be held from April 2021 to January 2022, while inter-district sports competitions will begin in March 2022.
      
     The HKG is a major multi-sport event with the 18 District Councils (DCs) as participating units. It aims to encourage active public participation in sports, facilitate communication among districts, strengthen the public's sense of belonging to their districts, and promote community cohesion.
      
     The HKG is organised by the Sports Commission and co-ordinated by the Community Sports Committee, with the 18 DCs; the Leisure and Cultural Services Department; the Sports Federation & Olympic Committee of Hong Kong, China; and respective National Sports Associations as co-organisers.
