Lord Ahmad to represent UK at G20 Foreign Ministers’ Meeting, November 2019

Lord (Tariq) Ahmad of Wimbledon will represent the United Kingdom at the G20 Foreign Ministers’ meeting in Nagoya, Japan this weekend (Friday 22nd and Saturday 23rd November).

The meeting will be an opportunity for G20 partners to address critical global challenges. The summit also represents the conclusion of Japan’s Presidency of the G20, before handing over to Saudi Arabia.

The discussions will focus on the promotion of free trade and global governance, fulfilling the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and development in Africa.

Lord Ahmad will reaffirm the UK’s commitment to upholding the Rules Based International System and encourage continued G20 support for the rules based multilateral trading system and World Trade Organisation reform.

Having played a leading role in their creation, the UK remains dedicated to promoting and delivering the G20’s 2030 Agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals at home and abroad.

The UK also supports the G20’s role in facilitating economic transformation in Africa through cooperation on innovation, sustainability, infrastructure and debt sensitivity.

In addition to the main plenary sessions based around the themes of the summit, Lord Ahmad will attend a dinner hosted by Japanese Foreign Minister Toshimitsu Motegi and meet with Foreign Ministers from the G20 participating countries.
