CSSA caseload for September 2020

     The overall Comprehensive Social Security Assistance (CSSA) caseload in September showed a drop of 232 cases, representing a decrease of 0.1 per cent compared with that of August, according to the latest CSSA caseload statistics released by the Social Welfare Department today (October 20).

     The total CSSA caseload at the end of September stood at 225 958 (see attached table), with a total of 318 438 recipients.

     Analysed by case nature, low-earnings cases registered a month-to-month decrease of 3.5 per cent to 2 639 cases. Single parent cases were down by 0.6 per cent to 24 758 cases. Old age cases fell by 0.3 per cent to 132 379 cases.

     Unemployment cases increased by 1.4 per cent to 19 024 cases. The figure represented an increase of about 57.2 per cent in comparison with that of September 2019. The number of applications of unemployment cases increased by 25.1 per cent to 1 162 cases in September 2020, representing an increase of about 89.6 per cent from 613 cases in September 2019.

     Ill-health cases rose by 0.6 per cent to 25 669 cases. Permanent disability cases increased by 0.3 per cent to 17 348 cases.
