Cluster of Parainfluenza cases at Pamela Youde Nethersole Eastern Hospital

The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:
 
     The spokesperson for Pamela Youde Nethersole Eastern Hospital made the following announcement today (May 22):
 
     Four patients (aged 66 to 80) in a female psychogeriatric ward have presented with respiratory symptoms since May 14. Appropriate viral tests were arranged for the patients and the test results were positive for Parainfluenza Virus Type 3. The patients concerned are being treated under isolation with stable condition.
 
     The infection control measures in the ward have been enhanced according to the established guidelines. All other patients in the ward are under close surveillance. The hospital has reported the cases to the Hospital Authority Head Office and the Centre for Health Protection for necessary follow-up.
