The United States is closely monitoring the ongoing court proceedings to invalidate the results of the June 3 mayoral elections in Chisinau, Moldova. The sanctity of elections are the foundation of any democracy and must comply with international norms. We expect the Moldovan government to guarantee a transparent court process without political interference. If any irregularities are found, we urge all parties to address them in a way that respects the rule of law and democratic principles of government, including the will of the people as expressed through elections.
