Update on cluster of Multidrug-resistant Acinetobacter cases in Princess Margaret Hospital

The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:

     The spokesperson for Princess Margaret Hospital (PMH) made the following update today (October 18) regarding an earlier announcement on a cluster of inpatients with Multidrug-resistant Acinetobacter (MDRA) in a medicine and geriatrics ward:
 
     Two more female patients in the ward (aged 66 and 74) are confirmed to have MDRA. They are under medical surveillance and isolation and are in stable condition.
 
     PMH will continue the enhanced infection control measures and closely monitor the situation of the ward. The cases have been reported to the Hospital Authority Head Office and the Centre for Health Protection for necessary follow-up.
