Green peer calls for fan boycott of USA world cup venues due to fears of ICE

Green Party peer, Baroness Jenny Jones said:

“The horrific shooting of innocent people by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) raises big concerns about the security of people from this country visiting the USA, especially if they are victims of racial profiling by ICE agents. President Trump and his administration have lied on behalf of ICE and given them backing for acting illegally and killing people who they then labels as “domestic terrorists”. As someone who was on the Met Police’s domestic extremism database for several years, along with thousands of others, that does not seem like a safe country to visit.

“The proposed new rules on handing over 5 years of your social media history along with passwords for all your emails and other apps, will also put off many fans. As will President Trumps view that over 450 British soldiers who died in Afghanistan were not really fighters. This world cup should be a great event for British football fans like myself, but I hope others see the sense of watching these games from the safety of your own home, or a screen in the local park.”
