Contractor fined for violation of safety legislation

     Dong-Ah Geological Engineering Company Ltd was fined $32,000 at West Kowloon Magistrates' Courts today (March 11) for violation of the Factories and Industrial Undertakings Ordinance. The prosecutions were launched by the Labour Department.
      
     The case involved a fatal accident that occurred on June 30, 2020, at a reclamation site of the Hong Kong International Airport three-runway system project. While a gang of workers was engaged in repairing a winch drum of a machine on the site, a wire rope of the winch drum suddenly flipped and struck two of the workers. One worker sustained serious head injury and died later while the other sustained bone fracture.




Fatal traffic accident in Lantau North

     Police are investigating a fatal traffic accident in Lantau North last night (March 10) in which a 50-year-old man died.

     At 11.53pm, a private car driven by the 50-year-old man reportedly rammed into a wall when it reversed in a car park on 1 Kin Tung Road.

     The driver collapsed inside the compartment and was rescued by firemen. Sustaining no superficial injury, he was rushed to North Lantau Hospital in unconscious state and was certified dead at 1.54am today (March 11).

     Investigation by the Special Investigation Team of Traffic, New Territories South is underway.

Public hospitals daily update on COVID-19 cases

The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:

     As at 9am today (March 11), 20 COVID-19 confirmed patients were discharged from hospital in the last 24 hours. So far, a total of 10 695 patients with confirmed or probable infection have been discharged.
 
     At present, there are 665 negative pressure rooms in public hospitals with 1 214 negative pressure beds activated. A total of 200 confirmed patients are currently hospitalised in 22 public hospitals, a community treatment facility and the North Lantau Hospital Hong Kong Infection Control Centre, among which 13 patients are in critical condition, 12 are in serious condition and the remaining 175 patients are in stable condition.
 
     The Hospital Authority will maintain close contact with the Centre for Health Protection to monitor the latest developments and to inform the public and healthcare workers on the latest information in a timely manner.
