Internships nurture future talent

     An internship programme that empowers tertiary students to engage in technology as well as research and development industries is consistently grooming a new generation of visionaries driven to stimulate Hong Kong's economic growth.
 
     News.gov.hk spoke to some of the interns to learn how the Hong Kong Productivity Council's winter internship scheme has given them inspiration for future studies and career plans.

Red flag hoisted at Stanley Main Beach

     The Leisure and Cultural Services Department announced today (April 4) that due to big waves, the red flag has been hoisted at Stanley Main Beach in Southern District, Hong Kong Island. Beach-goers are advised not to swim at the beach.




Beach users reminded to comply with anti-epidemic requirements

     The Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD) has resumed lifeguard services at 15 gazetted beaches from April 2. The department reminds beach users to maintain an appropriate social distance with other people as far as possible. Members of the public should strictly observe regulations on the prohibition of group gatherings. The number of people in group gatherings should not be more than four. The public should wear masks at all times on beaches (except while swimming). Offenders are liable to prosecution.

     The LCSD also calls on members of the public to observe water safety. Please do not enter the water when lifeguard services are not available or the red flag is hoisted.

     The fire danger situation today (April 4) is yellow and the risk of fire is high. People are urged to prevent fires breaking out and hikers should also be vigilant.
 




COVID-19 Vaccination Programme statistics

     The COVID-19 Vaccination Programme has been implemented for the 37th day since February 26, 2021.
 
     So far, about 544 000 doses of COVID-19 vaccines have been administered for members of the public (please see Annex 1). Among them, about 475 100 persons have received their first dose, with about 323 800 persons receiving the Sinovac vaccine and about 151 300 persons receiving the BioNTech vaccine. About 68 900 persons have received their second dose of the Sinovac vaccine.
 
     In the last 24 hours ending at 8pm today (April 3), the following vaccination and booking figures were recorded:
 
(i) About 3 600 persons received their first dose of the Sinovac vaccine, including about 3 300 persons vaccinated at eight Community Vaccination Centres (CVCs) and about 300 persons at private doctors and clinics participating in the programme;
 
(ii) about 9 100 persons received their second dose of the Sinovac vaccine, including about 7 400 persons vaccinated at the CVCs and about 1 700 persons at private doctors and clinics;
 
(iii) the overall percentage of people who have received the Sinovac vaccine at the eight CVCs is about 96 per cent; and
 
(iv) about 3 200 persons have made online bookings for receiving their first and second doses of the Sinovac vaccine, while about 42 300 persons have made online bookings for receiving their first and second doses of the BioNTech vaccine.
 
     In the last 24 hours ending at 0.00am today, there was one case of an ambulance transfer to a hospital. The person was discharged against medical advice (please see Annex 2).
 
     As background information, in the last 24 hours ending at 0.00am today, there were 53 cases of stroke or myocardial infarction that required admission to the Intensive Care Unit, Acute Stroke Unit and Cardiac Care Unit of public hospitals. The state of new cases admitted to the wards concerned is provided as a cross reference to enhance fuller public understanding of cases of the kind recorded on vaccine recipients.
