Progress in handling of banking complaints by HKMA

The following is issued on behalf of the Hong Kong Monetary Authority:

     The Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) announced today (June 11) the progress made in its handling of banking complaints received as at end-May 2021. Banking complaints include cases concerning general banking services and conduct-related issues.

     In May 2021, 258 cases were received and the handling of 214 cases was completed. As at end-May, the handling of 690 cases was in progress. 

     A table summarising the progress made in the handling of banking complaints by the HKMA is attached.




Analytical Accounts of Exchange Fund

The following is issued on behalf of the Hong Kong Monetary Authority:
 
     The Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) released today (June 11) the key analytical accounts of the Exchange Fund at the end of May 2021.

     Foreign assets, representing the external assets of the Exchange Fund, increased during the month by HK$27.5 billion to HK$4,036.1 billion.

     The Monetary Base, comprising Certificates of Indebtedness, Government‑issued currency notes and coins in circulation, the balance of the banking system and Exchange Fund Bills and Notes issued, amounted to HK$2,110.5 billion.

     Claims on the private sector in Hong Kong amounted to HK$235.9 billion.

     The analytical accounts of the Exchange Fund are released in accordance with the International Monetary Fund's Special Data Dissemination Standard (SDDS) and are referred to as the Analytical Accounts of the Central Bank under SDDS (Annex).

     At present, four press releases relating to the Exchange Fund's data are issued by the HKMA each month. Three of these releases are issued to disseminate monetary data in accordance with the International Monetary Fund's Special Data Dissemination Standard (SDDS). The fourth press release, on the Exchange Fund's Abridged Balance Sheet and Currency Board Account, is made in accordance with the HKMA's policy of maintaining a high level of transparency. Service arrangements of DH’s elderly health centres

     In view of the development of the COVID-19 epidemic situation, the Department of Health (DH) today (June 11) announced that starting from June 15, all 18 Elderly Health Centres of the DH will increase the number of service days from three to four days a week, and the walk-in consultation service currently suspended will gradually resume as normal.

     Meanwhile, the DH will continue to implement stringent infection control measures at service units, of which, all attending clients and visitors must put on masks and have their body temperature checked.




Public hospitals daily update on COVID-19 cases

The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:

     As at 9am today (June 11), three COVID-19 confirmed patients (case numbers: 11862, 11864, 11869) were discharged from hospital in the last 24 hours. So far, a total of 11 593 patients with confirmed or probable infection have been discharged.
 
     At present, there are 603 negative pressure rooms in public hospitals with 1 120 negative pressure beds activated. A total of 41 confirmed patients are currently hospitalised in 13 public hospitals and the North Lantau Hospital Hong Kong Infection Control Centre, among which one patient (case number: 6794) is in critical condition, one (case number: 9907) is in serious condition and the remaining 39 patients are in stable condition.
 
     The Hospital Authority will maintain close contact with the Centre for Health Protection to monitor the latest developments and to inform the public and healthcare workers on the latest information in a timely manner.

     The effective exchange rate index for the Hong Kong dollar on Friday, June 11, 2021 is 100.1 (same as yesterday's index).
