     The shelters will be open until 8am tomorrow.

     The temporary night heat shelters will resume their functions as either community centres or community halls in the daytime for hire by the local community and cannot continue to be open as heat shelters. People may choose to take refuge from the heat during the daytime in the common areas in any of the 22 designated community centres or community halls.      The "iAM Smart" system has once been heavily loaded this morning (July 4). Members of the public may encounter some problems when login and authenticate their identity using "iAM Smart" to register for the Consumption Voucher Scheme (the Scheme).
      
     The "iAM Smart" system has already resumed normal service but a longer queuing time is still needed as the number of people choosing to register through the platform remains high.

     A spokesman stressed that the website of the Scheme (www.consumptionvoucher.gov.hk) has been operating smoothly all along. Registration directly through the website using other ways of authentication, for example, by answering two security questions to authenticate their identity if they have successfully registered and received payment or collected the cheque under the Cash Payout Scheme, is simple and smooth and no queuing was required. The whole registration process took only a few minutes to complete. 

     Eligible persons who have completed electronic registration in the first two weeks (i.e. on or before July 17) will receive the first voucher on August 1, hence there is no need to rush for registration during the first one or two days, the spokesman added.

     â€‹The Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department (AFCD) today (July 4) laid charges against three Mainland fishermen suspected of engaging in illegal fishing in Hong Kong waters near Basalt Island, Sai Kung.

     AFCD officers intercepted a Mainland fishing vessel suspected to be carrying out illegal fishing by long lining in the above-mentioned waters at about 3pm yesterday (July 3) for investigation. Some fishing gear and catches were seized on board.
      
     Charges were laid against the three Mainland fishermen found on board the vessel. They were suspected to have contravened the Fisheries Protection Ordinance (Cap. 171) (the Ordinance). They will appear at Kwun Tong Magistrates' Courts tomorrow (July 5).

     Only a vessel registered under the Ordinance can be used for fishing in Hong Kong waters. Regardless of the type of fishing gear used, a non-local fishing vessel is not allowed to carry out fishing activities in Hong Kong waters. Any offender on conviction is liable to a maximum penalty of a fine of $100,000 and imprisonment for six months.

     An AFCD spokesman said, "The Government is committed to cracking down on illegal fishing activities in Hong Kong waters. The AFCD will continue to step up patrols and stringently enforce the law."

  

The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:

     As at 9am today (July 4), three COVID-19 confirmed patients (case number: 11881, 11895, 11911) were discharged from hospital in the last 24 hours. So far, a total of 11 637 patients with confirmed or probable infection have been discharged.

     At present, there are 607 negative pressure rooms in public hospitals with 1 089 negative pressure beds activated. A total of 58 confirmed patients are currently hospitalised in 13 public hospitals and the North Lantau Hospital Hong Kong Infection Control Centre, among which one patient (case number: 6794) is in critical condition, one (case number: 9907) is in serious condition and the remaining 56 patients are in stable condition.

     The Hospital Authority will maintain close contact with the Centre for Health Protection to monitor the latest developments and to inform the public and healthcare workers on the latest information in a timely manner.

     Police are investigating a fatal traffic accident in Tai Po today (July 4) in which an 81-year-old man died.

     At 9.14am, a taxi driven by a 59-year-old man was travelling along Po Nga Road towards Sheung Shui. When approaching 12 Po Nga Road, it reportedly knocked down the 81-year-old man who was crossing the road.

     Sustaining serious head injury, the man was rushed to Prince of Wales Hospital in unconscious state and was certified dead at 11.53am.

     The taxi driver was arrested for dangerous driving causing death and is being detained for further enquiries.

     Investigation by the Special Investigation Team of Traffic, New Territories North is underway.
