Update on cluster of Vancomycin Resistant Enterococci cases in Princess Margaret Hospital

The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:

     Regarding an earlier announcement on a cluster of patients confirmed to be carriers of Vancomycin Resistant Enterococci (VRE), the spokesperson for Princess Margaret Hospital (PMH) gave the following update today (August 2):
 
     Having conducted contact tracing, two more male patients (aged 55 and 77) were identified as VRE carriers without clinical symptoms. The 77-year-old patient is being treated under isolation in PMH with stable condition, while the 55-year-old patient has been discharged earlier.
 
     In accordance with the prevailing guidelines, the hospital has adopted the following enhanced infection control measures:
 
1. Thorough cleaning and disinfection of the wards concerned;
2. Enhanced patient and environmental screening procedures; and
3. Application of stringent contact precautions and enhanced hand hygiene for staff and patients.
 
     The hospital will continue to closely monitor the situation of the patients. The cases have been reported to the Hospital Authority Head Office and the Centre for Health Protection for necessary follow-up.




Members of public actively support Sport For All Day 2021

     â€‹More than 153 000 people took part in Sport For All Day 2021 organised by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD) yesterday (August 1), enjoying free use of leisure facilities and participating in online and offline recreation and sports programmes to experience the fun of sports and show support for Hong Kong athletes in the Tokyo Olympic Games.    
      
     "Sport For All Day 2021 was well received by the general public. More than 120 000 people used our free facilities yesterday. A usage rate of over 98 per cent was recorded for the main arenas of sports centres. More than 57 000 people also enjoyed swimming for free at LCSD swimming pools," a spokesman for the LCSD said.
      
     The free recreation and sports programmes held in designated sports centres in 18 districts included Olympic sports-related activities, dance and other sports demonstrations, fun games, fitness corners, sports activities for parents and children, health talks and activities for persons with disabilities. More than 16 000 people took part in these programmes.
      
     The LCSD also conducted a live webcast yesterday introducing Latin dances, breaking, fitness dance and various new sports to the public. More than 17 000 viewers joined the event through the dedicated website and Facebook page. In addition, members of the public can revisit the sports videos on the dedicated website to share the fun of sports anytime and anywhere.
      
     The LCSD will continue to promote sport for all in the community and the benefits of doing exercise regularly, encouraging people to exercise at least half an hour a day for a healthy life.




Flag-lowering ceremony cancelled

     Owing to the thunderstorm warning, the flag-lowering ceremony to be conducted at Golden Bauhinia Square, Wan Chai at 6pm today (August 2) will be cancelled.
     




Missing man in Mong Kok located

     A man who went missing in Mong Kok has been located.

     Leung Wai-hung, aged 54, went missing after he left his left a caring centre on Canton Road on July 29 morning. Staff of the caring centre made a report to Police on July 30.

     Police located the man in Queen Elizabeth Hospital this afternoon (August 2).




Suspected red tide sighted at Ma Wan Tung Wan Beach

     The Leisure and Cultural Services Department announced today (August 2) that due to the sighting of a suspected red tide, the red flag has been hoisted at Ma Wan Tung Wan Beach in Tsuen Wan District. Beachgoers are advised not to swim at the beach until further notice.
