Public hospitals daily update on COVID-19 cases

The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:
 
     As at 9am today (August 8), no COVID-19 confirmed patient was discharged from hospital in the last 24 hours. So far, a total of 11 725 patients with confirmed or probable infection have been discharged.
      
     At present, there are 580 negative pressure rooms in public hospitals with 1 038 negative pressure beds activated. A total of 39 confirmed patients are currently hospitalised in nine public hospitals and the North Lantau Hospital Hong Kong Infection Control Centre, among which one patient (case number: 9907) is in serious condition and the remaining 38 patients are in stable condition.
      
     The Hospital Authority will maintain close contact with the Centre for Health Protection to monitor the latest developments and to inform the public and healthcare workers on the latest information in a timely manner.




HAD opens temporary heat shelters

     The Home Affairs Department has opened 19 temporary heat shelters today (August 8) as the Very Hot Weather Warning is in force.
      
     The shelters will be closed at 10pm if the warning is cancelled before 4.30pm. Otherwise, the temporary heat shelters (except the shelter in Islands District) will be open until 8am tomorrow.

Live broadcast of ballot drawing ceremony for Sale of Green Form Subsidised Home Ownership Scheme Flats 2020/21 on August 10

The following is issued on behalf of the Hong Kong Housing Authority:
 
     The Hong Kong Housing Authority (HA) announced today (August 8) that the ballot drawing ceremony for the Sale of Green Form Subsidised Home Ownership Scheme Flats 2020/21 (GSH 2020/21) will be held on August 10. The ballot drawing will be officiated by the Chairman of the HA Subsidised Housing Committee, Ms Cleresa Wong.
 
     "Ballots will be drawn for GSH 2020/21 to determine the applicants' priority sequence based on the last two digits of their application numbers. In line with the arrangement for recent sale exercises, the HA will arrange a live broadcast of the entire balloting process through its Facebook page for public viewing. On-site attendance for the public and the media will not be arranged," a spokesman for the HA said.
 
     The ballot drawing ceremony will start at 10.30am on August 10. Those interested can view the live broadcast of the balloting process on the HA's Facebook page (www.facebook.com/HKHousingAuthority).
 
     "The ballot results for GSH 2020/21 will be uploaded to the dedicated webpage on the HA/Housing Department website that afternoon (www.housingauthority.gov.hk/gsh/2020-21). Applicants who have submitted online applications will receive email notification of the ballot results after the ballot drawing ceremony," the spokesman said.
 
     "The HA estimates that flat selection for GSH 2020/21 will commence from October 2021," the spokesman added.




Correctional officers stop assault on person in custody

     â€‹Correctional officers stopped a person in custody assaulting another person in custody at Tong Fuk Correctional Institution yesterday (August 7).

     At 18.24 pm yesterday, a 41-year-old male person in custody attacked another 32-year-old male person in custody while on their way back to the dormitory. Officers at the scene immediately stopped the assailant and called for reinforcement.

     During the incident, the victim sustained injury to his face. After examination and treatment conducted at the institution hospital, he was referred to a public hospital for further treatment. The assailant did not sustain any injury, and thus no need to be sent out to a public hospital.

     The case has been reported to the Police for investigation.

     The two persons in custody were sentenced to imprisonment for the offence of assault with intent to rob and riot respectively.




Hammer Hill Road Swimming Pool temporarily closed

     Here is an item of interest to swimmers.

     The Leisure and Cultural Services Department announced today (August 8) that Hammer Hill Road Swimming Pool in Wong Tai Sin District has been temporarily closed for cleaning and superchlorination following the discovery of a small amount of vomit in the pool.

     It will be reopened at 6pm today.

     The department appeals to swimmers to be considerate and to keep the swimming pools clean. They are advised not to swim after a full meal and should use the toilet facilities if necessary before swimming.
