Acting Director of Home Affairs encourages community distribution of anti-epidemic support supplies by Central Government – rapid test kits (with photos)

     The Acting Director of Home Affairs, Miss Vega Wong on February 27 presented support supplies from the Central Government – rapid test kits to the organisers of a community vaccination event held at the Tsim Sha Tsui Hall for free distribution to the participants of the event.  
      
     Accompanied by the District Officer (Yau Tsim Mong), Mr Edward Yu, Miss Wong visited the community vaccination event jointly organised by the Federation of Hong Kong Hubei Associations, Tsim Sha Tsui District Kai Fong Welfare Association and the Hong Kong Federation of Trade Unions, etc, as supported by the Yau Tsim Mong District Office.  
      
     Miss Wong officiated at the ceremony during the event, presenting to the event organisers over 10 000 rapid test kits as anti-epidemic support supplies from the Central Government. She expressed gratitude to the Central Government for the huge amount of manpower and resource support provided for Hong Kong when delivering her speech.
      
     Miss Wong said, “The Home Affairs Bureau has already handed 1.8 million rapid test kits over to the Hong Kong Community Anti-Coronavirus Link (Link) on February 26. The rapid test kits will be distributed to locals with the help of the Link’s volunteer teams and the district networks of the Home Affairs Department such as that as exhibited in the community vaccination event on February 27. In order to distribute anti-epidemic support supplies from the Central Government to people in need as soon as possible, the Government will continue to distribute rapid test kits to residents, cleansing workers and property management staff in relevant districts where positive results are detected in sewage surveillance. After the tests conducted during a restriction-testing declaration operations, persons who are tested will be provided with such kits for rapid tests.”
      
     Miss Wong also expressed gratitude to District Offices for organising various vaccination events, including the several ones to be organised by the Yau Tsim Mong District Office in the coming weeks in collaboration with different organisations that provide earlier opportunities for children, elderly persons and ethnic minorities to receive COVID-19 vaccination in the district.

HAD and District Offices distribute complimentary COVID-19 rapid test kits by Central Government to members of public

     District Offices under the Home Affairs Department together with the Hong Kong Community Anti-Coronavirus Link (the Anti-Coronavirus Link) on February 27 distributed a total of over 270 000 anti-epidemic support supplies by the Central Government – COVID-19 rapid test kits (rapid test kits) to members of the public for free in different districts in Hong Kong, and will continue to distribute rapid test kits in the coming few days in different districts for members of the public to take the test on their own, in order to identify infected persons as soon as possible.

     The Acting Director of Home Affairs, Miss Vega Wong, accompanied by the District Officer (Yau Tsim Mong), Mr Edward Yu, and the Yau Tsim Mong representative of the Anti-Coronavirus Link, distributed complimentary rapid test kits to members of the public at one of the estates in the district and handed over more than 10 000 rapid test kits to the organisers of a vaccination event held at Tsim Sha Tsui Community Hall for distribution to the participating members of the public. The Anti-Coronavirus Link will continue to distribute rapid test kits at different locations in Yau Tsim Mong District in the coming few days.

     The Wong Tai Sin District Office, together with the Anti-Coronavirus Link, set up street booths in the district, and distributed rapid test kits through the owners’ corporations, property management companies, the estate offices of the Housing Department and district networks, to residents, cleansing workers and property management staff living and working in Wong Tai Sin, San Po Kong and Tsz Wan Shan, and will continue to distribute rapid test kits within the district in the coming few days.

     In addition, the Sham Shui Po District Office, together with the Anti-Coronavirus Link, distributed anti-epidemic supplies received from the Mainland, including rapid test kits and proprietary Chinese medicines, to cleansing workers and property management staff working in the housing estates within the district through the property management companies.

     The Islands District Office, together with the Anti-Coronavirus Link, distributed rapid test kits through the property management companies, the Rural Committees and the residents’ association, etc, to residents in the district for free.

     The Yuen Long District Office, together with the Anti-Coronavirus Link, distributed rapid test kits to members of the public at Shui Che Kwun Lane, Yuen Long. The Anti-Coronavirus Link has also arranged the distribution of rapid test kits to residents through different means at a number of locations in Yuen Long town, Tin Shui Wai and rural areas of Yuen Long.

     The Southern District Office, together with the Anti-Coronavirus Link, the Hong Kong Southern District Community Association and district organisations, also distributed rapid test kits to residents in various locations in the district, including Wah Kwai, Wah Fu, Shek Yu, Lee Tung, Wong Chuk Hang and Ap Lei Chau.

     In addition, the Sai Kung District Office, together with the Anti-Coronavirus Link, set up street booths in the district, and distributed rapid test kits to residents, cleansing workers and property management staff living and working in Sai Kung through owners’ corporations, property management companies and district networks, and will continue to distribute in the district in the coming few days.

     The North District Office, together with the Anti-Coronavirus Link, distributed rapid test kits to households in several estates within the district through the property management companies, the owners’ corporations and the residents welfare associations in the district.

     The Central and Western District Office set up a street booth in Sheung Wan Cultural Square with the Anti-Coronavirus Link to distribute complimentary rapid test kits to members of the public. The Anti-Coronavirus Link also distributed rapid test kits to the residents and staff (including security guards, cleansing workers and staff of building management offices) of around 120 buildings in the Central and Western district through owners’ corporations or building management offices.

     The Tai Po District Office, together with the Anti-Coronavirus Link, distributed rapid test kits to residents, security guards and cleansing workers in several estates within the district through the owners’ corporations and the property management companies.

     The Sha Tin District Office, together with the Anti-Coronavirus Link, the Sha Tin Rural Committee and district organisations, distributed rapid test kits to residents, security guards and cleansing workers in several estates within the district.

     The Kwai Tsing District Office, together with the Anti-Coronavirus Link, also distributed rapid test kits to security guards and cleansing workers in several estates within the district.

     The Eastern District Office, together with the Anti-Coronavirus Link and the Hong Kong Eastern District Community Association, distributed rapid test kits to residents of Eastern District at Java Road, North Point on February 26.

     The Government appeals for the co-operation of members of the public to safeguard the health of themselves and their families by undergoing testing on a voluntary basis and fighting the virus together. The Government urges all individuals who are in doubt about their own health condition, or individuals with infection risks (such as individuals who visited places with epidemic outbreaks or had contact with cases that tested positive), to undergo testing promptly for early identification of infected persons to reduce the transmission risks of COVID-19. read more

Government follows up on positive results of sewage surveillance and appeals to residents to undergo virus testing

     The Government announced that in order to fight the coronavirus epidemic, the Environmental Protection Department and the Drainage Services Department in collaboration with the cross-disciplinary team of the University of Hong Kong had strengthened the sampling of sewage for virus testing in all districts, and had detected positive results in many areas, indicating that there may be hidden cases in the premises within these areas.
     
Rapid test

     As regards positive sewage testing results in Kwun Tong, Sha Tin, Sham Shui Po, Kwai Tsing, Eastern and Wong Tai Sin Districts, the Home Affairs Department (including Kwun Tong, Sha Tin, Sham Shui Po, Kwai Tsing, Eastern and Wong Tai Sin District Offices) will distribute COVID-19 rapid test kits to residents and all cleansing workers and property management staff working in the following areas (see Annex) starting from today (February 28) for them to take the test on their own, in order to help identifying infected persons –
 

  • Sewage Testing Area Kwun Tong Site 2-7 SMPE 10A/B – Sau Ming House of Sau Mau Ping Estate, Kwun Tong
  • Sewage Testing Area Shatin Site 1A WCE-14 – Foo Wo House of Wo Che Estate, Sha Tin
  • Sewage Testing Area Sham Shui Po Site 3 FE-05 (Part) – Chun Lai House and Chun Yin House of Hang Chun Court, Sham Shui Po
  • Sewage Testing Area Shatin Site STWE-03A/B/C – Foo Wai House of Sun Tin Wai Estate, Sha Tin
  • Sewage Testing Area Kwai Chung Site 2 SL1E-03A/B/C – Shek Chun House of Shek Lei (I) Estate, Kwai Chung

     In addition, the Eastern District Office of Home Affairs Department will distribute COVID-19 rapid test kits to all cleansing workers and property management staff working in the following area (see Annex) starting from today for them to take the test on their own, in order to help identifying infected persons. The Government appeals to residents and those working in this area who have been exposed to infection risks to undergo testing on a voluntary basis to achieve “early identification, early isolation and early treatment”.
 
  • Sewage Testing Area Eastern Site 7A (Part) – Siu Sai Wan Estate, Chai Wan

      Members of the public may refer to (www.youtube.com/watch?v=yzFAUzTtmKk) for enquiries relating to the use of the rapid test kits.

     When using a rapid test kit, please pay attention to and follow the instructions from the manufacturer to perform the test and read the result properly. It is advisable to record the displayed result by taking a photo immediately after reading. Users should wash their hands before and after performing the tests, and avoid placing non-essential items within the specimen collection area. After completing the test, wrap and seal all components of the test kit carefully and dispose properly. If the household environment is contaminated during the specimen collecting process, disinfection should be conducted with 1 in 49 diluted bleach solution or 70 per cent alcohol.

     If people living or working in the areas with positive sewage testing results are tested positive with the rapid test kits, they may call 2280 4772, the Government’s 24-hour hotline for “persons tested positive with rapid antigen tests in areas with positive sewage testing results” for assistance. Should these persons begin to develop symptoms before results are available, they may consult their family doctors for advice according to their needs. When severe symptoms (e.g. prolonged fever at 38 degrees Celsius or above, or signs such as shortness of breath, palpitations, chest pain) are developed, members of the public are urged to call the 999 hotline for arranging ambulance transfer to hospital as early as possible. read more

HAD distributes complimentary COVID-19 rapid test kits to households, cleansing workers and property management staff in Kwun Tong, Sai Kung, Eastern District, Kowloon City and Sha Tin (with photos)

     In light of the positive test results for the COVID-19 virus from some sewage samples collected in Kwun Tong, Sai Kung, Eastern District, Kowloon City and Sha Tin, the Home Affairs Department (HAD) (including the Kwun Tong District Office (KTDO), the Sai Kung District Office (SKDO), the Eastern District Office (EDO), the Kowloon City District Office (KCDO) and the Sha Tin District Office (STDO)) today (February 27) distributed a total of about 43 000 COVID-19 rapid test kits (rapid test kits) to households, cleansing workers and property management staff living and working in the districts.

     The KTDO distributed rapid test kits to households, cleansing workers and property management staff living and working in Sau Wah House and Sau Yee House of Sau Mau Ping Estate, Kwun Tong for voluntary testing through the Housing Department and the property management company, and distributed rapid test kits to cleansing workers and property management staff working in Upper Ngau Tau Kok Estate, Lok Wah South Estate and Lok Wah North Estate, Kwun Tong through the Housing Department and the property management companies.

     The SKDO distributed rapid test kits to households, cleansing workers and property management staff living and working in Yun Ming House of Yung Ming Court for voluntary testing through the property management company.

     The EDO distributed rapid test kits to households, cleansing workers and property management staff living and working in Tsui Wan Estate, Chai Wan for voluntary testing through the property management company.

     The KCDO also distributed rapid test kits to households, cleansing workers and property management staff living and working in Oi Man Estate, Ho Man Tin for voluntary testing through the Housing Department and the property management company.

     In addition, the STDO distributed rapid test kits to households, cleansing workers and property management staff living and working in Lok Chuen House, Ho Chuen House and Yan Chuen House of Shui Chuen O Estate, Sha Tin for voluntary testing through the Housing Department and the property management company.

     The HAD made the above arrangements in the hope of identifying infected persons early.
