     The Leisure and Cultural Services Department announced today (August 21) that due to big waves, the red flag has been hoisted at Hung Shing Yeh Beach in Islands District. Beachgoers are advised not to swim at the beach.

     The Leisure and Cultural Services Department announced today (August 21) that due to big waves, red flags have been hoisted at Pui O Beach in Islands District and Hap Mun Bay Beach in Sai Kung District. Beachgoers are advised not to swim at these beaches.




Labour Department to hold briefing on abolition of MPF offsetting arrangement

     The Labour Department will hold a briefing on the abolition of Mandatory Provident Fund (MPF) offsetting arrangement on September 26 (Thursday) at 3.30pm at the Hall, North Point Community Hall, 123 Java Road, North Point. Employers, employees and human resources practitioners are welcome to attend.
      
     The abolition of MPF offsetting arrangement will be implemented on May 1, 2025, to improve the retirement protection of employees. The Government will at the same time launch the 25-year Subsidy Scheme for Abolition of MPF Offsetting Arrangement to share out the severance payment/long service payment expenses of employers after the abolition. The key features of the abolition of MPF offsetting arrangement, the calculation of severance payment/long service payment after the abolition and the main points of the Subsidy Scheme for Abolition of MPF Offsetting Arrangement will be introduced in the briefing.
      
     The briefing will be conducted in Cantonese and admission is free. Seats will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis and the enrolment deadline is September 17 (Tuesday). Red flag hoisted at Big Wave Bay Beach

     The Leisure and Cultural Services Department announced today (August 21) that according to the Beach Water Quality Forecast System of the Environmental Protection Department (www.epd.gov.hk/epd/english/environmentinhk/water/beach_quality/forecast_system.html), the Beach Water Quality Forecast Index for Big Wave Bay Beach in Southern District, Hong Kong Island is 4, which means the predicted water quality at these beaches is "Very Poor" due to potential transient water quality fluctuations caused by heavy rain. The red flag has been hoisted, and beachgoers are advised not to enter the water to safeguard their health.
 




SITI to visit Beijing

     The Secretary for Innovation, Technology and Industry, Professor Sun Dong, will depart for Beijing today (August 21) to call on relevant central ministries and institutions to discuss strengthening co-operation and exchange.

     During his visit in Beijing, Professor Sun will also attend the 2024 World Robot Conference and take part in the dialogue session of the main forum, as well as the kick-off ceremony of the HICOOL 2024 Global Entrepreneur Summit.

     The Commissioner for Industry (Innovation and Technology), Dr Ge Ming, will join part of the visit in Beijing.

     Professor Sun will return to Hong Kong in the afternoon of August 24. During his absence, the Under Secretary for Innovation, Technology and Industry, Ms Lillian Cheong, will be the Acting Secretary for Innovation, Technology and Industry on August 21, while the Secretary for Financial Services and the Treasury, Mr Christopher Hui, will take up the post of the Secretary for Innovation, Technology and Industry on August 22 and in the morning of August 23 concurrently. The Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development, Mr Algernon Yau, will concurrently take up the post of the Secretary for Innovation, Technology and Industry in the afternoon of August 23 and the morning of August 24.
