Red flag hoisted at Stanley Main Beach

     The Leisure and Cultural Services Department announced today (September 10) that due to big waves, the red flag has been hoisted at Stanley Main Beach in Southern District, Hong Kong Island. Beachgoers are advised not to swim at the beach.




EMSD announces test results of LPG quality in August 2024

     The Electrical and Mechanical Services Department (EMSD) today (September 10) announced that the department collected eight liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) samples from auto-LPG filling stations and LPG terminals on a random basis in August 2024 for laboratory tests. The results show that the LPG quality of all these samples complied with auto-LPG specifications.
      
     The detailed test results are available on the EMSD website (www.emsd.gov.hk/en/gas_safety/lpg_vehicle_scheme/publications/general/results_of_lpg_sample_analysis/index.html). Enquiries can also be made to the EMSD hotline on 2333 3762.
      
     In addition, the EMSD has been vetting independent third-party test reports submitted by LPG supply companies for each shipment to ensure that the quality of imported LPG complies with the specified requirements.




Postal services to Brazil return to normal

     Hongkong Post announced today (September 10) that, as advised by the postal administration of Brazil, mail delivery services to the state of Rio Grande do Sul previously impacted by severe weather have returned to normal.




“M” Mark status awarded to LI-NING Hong Kong Open Badminton Championships 2024 part of the HSBC BWF World Tour Super 500

The following is issued on behalf of the Major Sports Events Committee:
 
     The Major Sports Events Committee (MSEC) has awarded "M" Mark status to LI-NING Hong Kong Open Badminton Championships 2024 part of the HSBC BWF World Tour Super 500 which will be held from September 10 to 15.
      
     The Chairman of the MSEC, Mr Wilfred Ng, said today (September 9) that like all other "M" Mark events, the above event can showcase the vibrancy of Hong Kong and bring a wide variety of experiences to citizens and tourists, thereby further facilitating the sports development and enhancing Hong Kong's status and reputation in the international sports arena.
      
     The "M" Mark System aims to encourage and help local "national sports associations" and private and non-government organisations to organise more major international sports events and nurture them into sustainable undertakings. Sports events meeting the assessment criteria will be granted "M" Mark status by the MSEC. Funding support will also be provided to some events.

SED to visit France

     The Secretary for Education, Dr Choi Yuk-lin, will begin her visit to France tomorrow (September 10, France time). She will visit Lyon, Toulouse and Paris.
 
     Dr Choi will attend WorldSkills Lyon 2024 organised by WorldSkills International. This year, Hong Kong will send its largest-ever delegation to the event to participate in over 30 competitions. Apart from giving her support to the delegation in person, Dr Choi will attend the WorldSkills Conference and speak at a panel discussion to promote vocational and professional education and training in Hong Kong.
 
     In addition, Dr Choi will attend the European Association for International Education Conference and Exhibition in Toulouse to promote Hong Kong's unique competitive edge as an international higher education hub, and visit the Hong Kong Pavilion set up by the Heads of Universities Committee Standing Committee on Internationalisation to support the work of the eight University Grants Committee-funded universities in attracting more overseas students to study in Hong Kong.
 
     During her tour, Dr Choi will visit Paris and call on international organisations. She will also visit research institutes and universities, as well as exchange views with Hong Kong youths studying or working in France.
 
     Dr Choi will conclude her visit and return to Hong Kong on September 19 (France time). During her absence, the Under Secretary for Education, Mr Sze Chun-fai, will be the Acting Secretary for Education.
