     The Leisure and Cultural Services Department announced today (July 24) that due to big waves, red flags have been hoisted at Repulse Bay Beach, Turtle Cove Beach and Shek O Beach in Southern District, Hong Kong Island; Hung Shing Yeh Beach, Lo So Shing Beach, Pui O Beach, Upper Cheung Sha Beach, Lower Cheung Sha Beach and Tong Fuk Beach in Islands District. Beach-goers are advised not to swim at these beaches.

     The Civil Engineering and Development Department today (July 24) announced that as Standby Singnal No. 1 has been issued by the Hong Kong Observatory, the Chai Wan Public Fill Barging Point has been closed until further notice.




Sponsors sought for 2019 Lunar New Year Fireworks Display

     The Leisure and Cultural Services Department is inviting organisations that wish to sponsor the 2019 Lunar New Year Fireworks Display to submit applications on or before August 23 (Thursday).

     The fireworks display will be held on February 6 (Wednesday) next year.

     Applications should be submitted to the Secretary of the Fireworks Vetting Committee (address: Entertainment Office, Leisure and Cultural Services Department, 8/F, Queen Elizabeth Stadium, 18 Oi Kwan Road, Wan Chai, Hong Kong).

Fighting in a public place and common assault case in Kowloon City reclassified as manslaughter

     Police today (July 23) reclassified a fighting in a public place and common assault case in Kowloon City on July 16 as manslaughter.

     About 7.30pm that day, Police received a report that a 38-year-old woman was assaulted after disputing with her 38-year-old boyfriend on Hau Wong Road in Kowloon City. The man later fought with a 42-year-old man on Hau Wong Road.

     Police officers arrived at scene and located the 38-year-old woman who sustained injuries to her face and the 42-year-old man who sustained injuries to his head and hands. Both were sent to Queen Elizabeth Hospital for treatment in conscious state. The 38-year-old man who sustained head injuries was sent to Queen Elizabeth Hospital in semi-conscious state. He was certified dead at 5.18pm today.

     Post-mortem examinations will be conducted later to ascertain the cause of death.

     After investigation, Police arrested the 38-year-old man for fighting in a public place and common assault and the 42-year-old man for fighting in a public place on the same day. The 42-year-old man was charged with one count of wounding and appeared before Kowloon City Magistrates’ Courts on July 19.

     Active investigation by the District Crime Squad of Kowloon City District is under way.
