Some typhoon shelters are now full

     The Marine Department has announced that Rambler Channel and Tuen Mun typhoon shelters are now full.

     Local vessels are advised to use other typhoon shelters.
 




Hong Kong Customs seizes suspected cocaine and suspected methamphetamine

     Hong Kong Customs seized about 1.1 kilograms of suspected cocaine and about 2.5 kilograms of suspected methamphetamine in total at Hong Kong International Airport yesterday (September 14) and today (September 15) with an estimated market value of about $2.4 million.

     A 58-year-old male passenger arrived in Hong Kong from Cameroon via Ethiopia yesterday.  The man was found suspicious upon Customs clearance and was escorted to Hospital for examination. The man discharged the suspected cocaine yesterday and today. He was then arrested.

     The man was charged with one count of trafficking in a dangerous drug and will appear at West Kowloon Magistrates' Courts on September 17.

     Meanwhile, three 29-year-old female passengers arrived in Hong Kong from Malaysia today. During Customs clearance, suspected methamphetamine were seized in their possession and they were arrested.

     Investigation is ongoing.

     Under the Dangerous Drugs Ordinance, trafficking in a dangerous drug is a serious offence. The maximum penalty upon conviction is a fine of $5 million and life imprisonment.

Arrangement for General Out-patient Clinics

The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:

     The Hong Kong Observatory has announced that Super Typhoon Mangkhut will bring adverse weather to Hong Kong tomorrow (September 16). The Hospital Authority announces that if the typhoon signal No. 8 or above is in force by 7am tomorrow, its general out-patient clinics will be closed tomorrow while the Accident & Emergency services at public hospitals will remain normal. Outpatients are advised to make a new appointment after the cancellation of the Tropical Cyclone Warning Signal No. 8.




CFS urges public not to consume a kind of pancake imported from Japan with possible presence of mould

     The Centre for Food Safety (CFS) of the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department today (September 15) urged the public not to consume a kind of prepackaged pancake imported from Japan as there might be mould found in the package of the product.

     Product details are as follows:

Product name: Mini Dorayaki – Red Bean Jam Pancake
Brand: Muji
Country of Origin: Japan
Packing: 135 grams per pack
Expiry dates: September 12 to December 5, 2018

     A spokesman for the CFS said, "The CFS, through its routine Food Incident Surveillance System, noted an announcement by the Agri-Food and Veterinary Authority of Singapore that Muji (Singapore) is recalling the above-mentioned batch of pancake due to the possible presence of mould in the package of the product."

     The spokesman said that upon learning of the incident, the CFS immediately followed up with Muji (Hong Kong) Company Limited. According to information provided by the company, it had imported the affected product which was put on sale at its outlets. The company has already removed from shelves and stopped sale of the affected product earlier, and initiated a recall. Members of the public may call the company's hotline at 2694 9309 during office hours for enquiries about the recall.

     The CFS will continue to follow up on the incident and take appropriate action.




Civil Aid Service helps residents of lowland areas prepare for typhoon (with photos)

     In response to the risk of serious flooding in lowland areas as Super Typhoon Mangkhut approaches, Civil Aid Service (CAS) sent members to Lei Yue Mun and Tai O today (September 15) to help residents prepare for the storm at the request of Kwun Tong and Islands District Offices.
      
     CAS sent 40 members to Tai O this morning. Together with the Islands District Office and other relevant departments, they appealed to the residents, especially those who live in stilt houses or areas affected by serious flooding in the past, to move to the temporary shelters as early as possible. CAS members also assisted the residents in moving their household furniture to higher points to mitigate the damage caused by flooding.
      
     In addition, CAS worked with Kwun Tong District Office and sent 20 members at noon to join the Police to urge residents of Lei Yue Mun Village to move to the temporary shelter at Lei Yue Mun Sports Centre. CAS members also assisted the centre in providing support services.
