     The Leisure and Cultural Services Department announced today (October 15) that due to big waves, red flags have been hoisted at Stanley Main Beach, Shek O Beach and Big Wave Bay Beach in Southern District, Hong Kong Island; and Silverstrand Beach, Clear Water Bay First Beach and Clear Water Bay Second Beach in Sai Kung District. Beachgoers are advised not to swim at these beaches.

     The Labour Department (LD) will hold the Re-employment Allowance Pilot Scheme (REA Scheme) Job Fair at Southorn Stadium in Wan Chai on October 17 and 18, providing a large number of vacancies from various industries for job seekers, particularly middle-aged and elderly people.
     
     Around 60 organisations will participate in the two-day job fair, offering over 2 500 quality full-time or part-time job vacancies from various industries, including retail, catering, hotel, manufacturing and transport industries. More than 20 and 30 organisations will set up booths and conduct recruitment on the spot on their respective days. A wide variety of positions will be offered, including engineer, assistant branch manager, concierge, nurse, administrative officer, legal assistant, engineering supervisor, accounting/book-keeping clerk, assistant digital marketing officer, meal assembly services operator, cook, bookstore assistant, clinical assistant, Chinese medicine dispenser and packaging assistant. Most vacancies offer monthly salaries ranging from $11,000 to $24,000. Around 81 per cent of the vacancies are full-time jobs. About 97 per cent of the vacancies require a Secondary Seven education level or below. Around 60 per cent are open to job seekers without relevant work experience. Job seekers can visit the LD's Interactive Employment Service website (www.jobs.gov.hk) for more details of the vacancies.
           
     Job seekers can submit job applications during the event and may be selected for on-the-spot interviews. They can also make enquiries on the LD's employment services and details of REA Scheme at its counter inside the venue. In addition, the job fair on October 17 includes an experience-sharing session featuring artist Kwok Chun-on and REA Scheme participants. The service organisation of REA Scheme and various employers will also deliver talks on the same day.
     
     The job fair will be held from 11am to 5.30pm at 1/F, Southorn Stadium, 111 Johnston Road, Wan Chai (near MTR Wan Chai Station Exit A3). Admission is free, with final admission time at 5pm each day.

     A fire broke out at a public cargo working area on Hoi Fai Road, Yau Ma Tei, at 5.06pm yesterday (October 14) and was upgraded to No. 3 alarm at 6pm. The fire was surrounded at 8.03pm yesterday, put under control at 3.11am today (October 15) and largely put out at 7.17am.

     Firemen used two fire boat monitors, six jets and mobilising six breathing apparatus teams to fight the blaze.
          
     No casualties have been reported so far.

     Police are eager to locate the next-of-kin of a man who was found wandering in Castle Peak today (October 14).

     At about 6pm, Police received a report that a man was found wandering at a bus stop on Wu Chui Road.

     The man is about 25 years old. He is about 1.8 metres tall and of thin build. He has a pointed face with yellow complexion and short black hair. He wore a pair of black glasses, a brown short-sleeved shirt, black trousers and grey sports shoes. No identity document was found.

     The man, sustaining no superficial injuries, was sent to Tuen Mun Hospital for check-up.

     â€‹In view of the death of eight animals in Hong Kong Zoological and Botanical Gardens (HKZBG) yesterday (October 13), the Secretary for Culture, Sports and Tourism, Mr Kevin Yeung, convened an urgent interdepartmental meeting today (October 14) to listen to reports on the latest situation by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department, the Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department as well as the Department of Health, and to discuss the way forward.

     The meeting noted that the park staff have immediately stepped up monitoring of the conditions of all animals since yesterday. The movement response and appetite of a White-faced Saki and a De Brazza's Monkey were found unusual and they were removed from the original animal cages for close monitoring. The White-faced Saki has passed away this morning. The Park will continue to observe its status of the remaining De Brazza's Monkey.

     The Mammals Section of the HKZBG has been temporarily closed from this morning to facilitate the close monitoring of the conditions of those animals. The disinfection and cleaning of animal cages involved were completed. The health condition of all 80 animals in the HKZBG are normal. For the sake of prudence, staff working there will wear appropriate protective gear and keep a close watch on their health condition. At present, all staff is in healthy condition.

     In addition, the meeting discussed the different scenarios of case development and solutions. Relevant government departments will speed up autopsy and toxicological testing by relevant departments, so that the possible causes of the incident could be known as soon as possible.
