Proposed amendments to road works at Kennedy Road, Queen’s Road East and Ship Street gazetted

     The Government gazetted today (July 12) the proposed amendments to road works at Kennedy Road, Queen's Road East and Ship Street in Wan Chai to revise the design and alignment of sections of the roads.
      
     Details of the proposed amendments are set out in the Annex. The amendment plans and amendment scheme of the works are available for public inspection at the following government offices during office hours:

     The gazette notice, amendment scheme, amendment plans, Amendment Plan for Creation of Rights of Temporary Occupation of Land No. HKM8354a and location plan will be available at www.thb.gov.hk/eng/psp/publications/transport/gazette/gazette.htm.
      
     Any person who wishes to object to the proposed amendments is required to address to the Secretary for Transport and Housing an objection in writing, which can be submitted via the following means:
 

  • By post or by hand to the Transport and Housing Bureau's drop-in box No. 6 located at the entrance on 2/F, East Wing, Central Government Offices, 2 Tim Mei Avenue, Tamar, Hong Kong. The box is available for use between 8am and 7pm from Monday to Friday (except public holidays);
  • By fax to 2868 4643; or
  • By email to gazettethb@thb.gov.hk.

     
     A notice of objection should describe the objector's interest and the manner in which he or she alleges that they will be affected by the proposed amendments. Objectors are requested to provide contact details to facilitate communication. A notice of objection should be delivered to the Secretary for Transport and Housing not later than September 10, 2019.




Tenders invited for government canteen tenancy

     The Government Property Agency is inviting tenders for a three-year tenancy of the government canteen on a portion of the ground mezzanine floor, Lok Ma Chau Terminus, Lok Ma Chau Spur Line Control Point, New Territories.

     The premises should only be used as a canteen for the supply of meals, light refreshments, beverages (excluding alcoholic beverages) and other food commodities to Government employees working in the building and such other persons as may be authorised by the Director of Immigration.

     The tender notice was uploaded today (July 12) to the Agency's website: www.gpa.gov.hk. Tender documents are available for collection at the Government Property Agency, 31/F, Revenue Tower, 5 Gloucester Road, Wan Chai, during office hours (8.30am to 5.45pm from Mondays to Fridays). The documents can also be downloaded from the Agency's website.

     Interested tenderers who wish to inspect the site should make prior appointment with the Government Property Agency by calling 2594 7697 on or before July 22 this year.

     Tenderers must submit their tenders by placing them in the Government Logistics Department Tender Box situated on the G/F, North Point Government Offices, 333 Java Road, North Point, before noon on August 15 this year. Late tenders will not be accepted.
 




United Nations Sanctions (Yemen) Regulation 2019 and United Nations Sanctions (Yemen) Regulation 2015 (Repeal) Regulation gazetted

     The Government today (July 12) gazetted the United Nations Sanctions (Yemen) Regulation 2019 (the 2019 Regulation) and the United Nations Sanctions (Yemen) Regulation 2015 (Repeal) Regulation (the Repeal Regulation), which came into operation today.

     "The 2019 Regulation implements all sanctions imposed by the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) on Yemen, including those extended by UNSC Resolution 2456, using modernised drafting styles to improve tidiness and readability of the legislation. Consequential to the making of the 2019 Regulation, the Repeal Regulation repeals the United Nations Sanctions (Yemen) Regulation 2015," a Government spokesperson said.

     The sanctions implemented under the 2019 Regulation include:
 

  • prohibition against the supply and carriage of arms or related materiel to certain persons or entities;
  • prohibition against the provision to certain persons or entities of assistance related to military activities or the provision, maintenance or use of any arms or related materiel;
  • prohibition against making available economic assets to certain persons or entities, or dealing with economic assets of such persons or entities until midnight on February 26, 2020; and
  • prohibition against the entry into or transit through the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region by certain persons until midnight on February 26, 2020.

     The Leisure and Cultural Services Department announced today (July 12) that due to big waves, red flags have been hoisted at Hung Shing Yeh Beach and Lower Cheung Sha Beach in Islands District.  Beach-goers are advised not to swim at these beaches.




FS meets Luxembourg Finance Minister to bolster co-operation (with photos)

     The Financial Secretary, Mr Paul Chan, arrived at Luxembourg yesterday (July 11, Luxembourg time) and met with the Minister of Finance of Luxembourg, Mr Pierre Gramegna, to forge closer bilateral co-operation.

     In the afternoon, Mr Chan exchanged views with Mr Gramegna on deepening the co-operation on mutual recognition of funds between both places and the latest development of green finance in Hong Kong.

     Mr Chan pointed out that as one of the leading international wealth and asset management centres in Asia, Hong Kong welcomes more offshore funds to expand business in the city. The agreement with Luxembourg on mutual recognition of funds arrangements has boosted the development of the fund industry in both places, he added.

     Mr Chan also briefed Mr Gramegna the latest development of green finance in Hong Kong, including the first batch of green bond issued by the Government in May. He looks forward to strengthening co-operation with Luxembourg in promoting green finance and facilitating related cross-border investment.

     In the evening, Mr Chan attended a reception of the Asia Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB). Today (July 12, Luxembourg time), he will attend the Annual Meeting of the AIIB.

     The AIIB Annual Meeting brings together the AIIB's Board of Governors, representatives of members and partner institutions, as well as business leaders and experts. The Meeting focuses on how co-operation and strategic investments in sustainable infrastructure can contribute to deeper integration and economic growth via enhanced connectivity.
