Central recruitment day under e-Learning Support Scheme to be held by Labour Department on July 17

The Youth Employment and Training Programme (YETP) of the Labour Department (LD) will hold a central recruitment day under the e-Learning Support Scheme (eLSS) on July 17.

The eLSS provides pre-employment and on-the-job training opportunities for young people who wish to pursue their career in information technology, education and multimedia sectors, and equips them with necessary skills and experience. The LD held two central recruitment days in June to allow participating schools to arrange on-the-spot interviews for young people attending the central recruitment days. Young people who are employed as an e-Learning Support Officer will receive 100 hours of pre-employment training for free in July and August and then undergo 12-month on-the-job training with pay in the coming academic year.

As graduates will search for jobs after the release of the results of the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education Examination, the YETP is going to hold one more central recruitment day under the eLSS with details as follows:

Date: July 17 (Wednesday)
Time: 10am to 1pm and 2pm to 5pm
      (Different schools in two sessions)
Venue: 9/F, Pui Ching Primary School (Chieng Han Chow Memorial Building), 80 Waterloo Road, Kowloon
(around a 10-minute walk from MTR Mong Kok East Station Exit B or MTR Yau Ma Tei Station Exit A2)

Interested young people are welcome to browse the dedicated website at www.yes.labour.gov.hk/Employers/EmpJOBelss/Index or call the hotline at 2382 1310 for more information on the central recruitment day.

The arrangements will come into effect two hours before the start of the first race and will last until the crowds have dispersed after the race meeting.

Appropriate traffic signs will be put up and police will be on hand to guide motorists.

The Police also appeal to people going to Sha Tin Racecourse for the race meeting and to Happy Valley Racecourse for cross betting to make maximum use of public transport.

Parking spaces at the two racecourses are available only to holders of appropriate permits issued by Hong Kong Jockey Club and any vehicles illegally parked will be towed away.

Investment Agreement between Hong Kong and Chile enters into force

The Investment Agreement between Hong Kong and Chile entered into force today (July 14), bringing the total number of investment agreements in force between Hong Kong and foreign economies to 20.

Under the Agreement, the two sides undertake to provide investors of the other side with protections, including fair, equitable and non-discriminatory treatment of investments; compensation in the event of expropriation of investments; and the right to free transfers abroad of investments and returns. The Agreement also provides for settlement of investment disputes under internationally accepted rules.

The Agreement will give additional assurance to investors, facilitate investment flows between Hong Kong and Chile, and complement the existing Free Trade Agreement between Hong Kong and Chile in strengthening the economic and trade ties between the two places.

The Agreement was signed in November 2016. Both sides have completed their respective internal procedures required for the entry into force of the Agreement.

Hong Kong has so far signed 21 investment agreements with 30 foreign economies: the Association of Southeast Asian Nations, Australia, Austria, the Belgo-Luxembourg Economic Union, Canada, Chile, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Korea, Kuwait, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Sweden, Switzerland, Thailand, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and the United Kingdom. All these investment agreements, except for the one with the UAE, have entered into force.
