Protestors blocked Gloucester Road and Hong Kong Island entrance of Cross-Harbour Tunnel

     Some protestors are currently blocking the Gloucester Road and the Hong Kong Island entrance of Cross-Harbour Tunnel, seriously paralysing the traffic and affecting emergency services.

     Police warn protestors to stop blocking the roads and other illegal acts immediately. Protestors should respect the rights of other people while expressing their views.

     Police appeal to members of the public to avoid travelling to the area concerned and stay tuned to the latest traffic arrangement.
 




Protestors vandalised Government property

     At about 8.30pm, some protestors were maliciously damaging the traffic lights on Hennessy Road in Causeway Way, vandalising Government property, neglecting road users’ safety, and seriously paralysing the traffic in the area. Police warn the protestors to stop their illegal acts and express strong condemnation.

     At 8pm, some protestors were blocking Hennessy Road in Causeway Bay area and setting up barricades with metal frames on the carriage, paralysing the traffic.
      
     Police warn the protestors to stop their illegal acts and leave the site immediately. Drivers are advised to avoid travelling to the area and stay tuned to the latest traffic arrangement.




Hong Kong Customs seizes suspected cocaine (with photo)

     Hong Kong Customs yesterday (August 3) seized about three kilograms of suspected cocaine with an estimated market value of about $2.9 million at the Hong Kong International Airport.

     A female passenger arrived at Hong Kong from Sao Paulo, Brazil via Doha, Qatar yesterday afternoon. During customs clearance, the suspected cocaine was found being concealed inside false compartments of her briefcase. The woman was then arrested.

     The arrested woman, aged 60, has been charged with one count of trafficking in a dangerous drug. She will appear at West Kowloon Magistrates' Courts tomorrow (August 5).

     Under the Dangerous Drugs Ordinance, trafficking in a dangerous drug is a serious offence. The maximum penalty upon conviction is a fine of $5 million and life imprisonment.

     Participants who deviated from the public meeting in Belcher Bay Park have arrived at Queen’s Road West to set up barricades, blocking roads. 
           
     Police warn all protestors to stop their illegal acts immediately. In face of the situation, anti-riot police are using tear gas and minimum force to disperse the protestors.
           
     Police appeal to residents in the vicinity to stay tuned to the latest situation and if necessary, keep their windows shut and stay indoors.
