Government response to illegal protests

In response to the protests in Tseung Kwan O, Western District and Causeway Bay yesterday (August 4), a Government spokesman said the following:

Following the illegal and violent protests in Yau Tsim Mong and Wong Tai Sin the day before yesterday and early yesterday morning, Tseung Kwan O Police Station was vandalised and roads in Western District were blocked yesterday afternoon. Moreover, a lot of protesters assembled around Causeway Bay at night, blocking both ways of the tunnel tubes of the Cross Harbour Tunnel again, damaging police vehicles and traffic lights, attacking police officers and even committing arson. The deteriorating situation yesterday once again underlines that violent and illegal protests are spreading, pushing Hong Kong to the verge of a very dangerous situation. The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government strongly condemns such acts. We appeal to all members of the public to say no to violence in order to restore order in society as soon as possible.
