The Lands Department announced today (August 21) that in respect of the tender for the site New Kowloon Inland Lot No. 6577 at Kai Tak Area 4A Site 1, Kai Tak, Kowloon, which was awarded on July 24 to the successful tenderer, Dragon Star HK Investments Limited (parent company: K Wah International Holdings Limited, Wheelock Properties Limited and China Overseas Land & Investment Limited), on a 50-year land grant at a premium of $12,739,800,000, the tender amounts submitted by the unsuccessful tenderers in descending order are published on an anonymous basis as follows:

     The temporary night heat shelters will resume their functions as either community centres or community halls in the daytime for hire by the local community and cannot continue to be open as heat shelters. People may choose to take refuge from the heat during the daytime in the common areas in any of the 20 designated community centres or community halls. Their opening hours are from 9am to 10pm.      Two women and a man were fined from $8,000 to $12,000 at the Kowloon City Magistrates' Courts today (August 21) for contravening the Hotel and Guesthouse Accommodation Ordinance.
      
     The courts heard that in September last year and January this year, officers of the Office of the Licensing Authority (OLA), the Home Affairs Department, inspected three suspected unlicensed guesthouses on Shanghai Street, To Kwa Wan Road and Portland Street in Kowloon. During the inspections, the OLA officers posed as lodgers and successfully rented rooms in these guesthouses on an hourly or daily basis.
      
     According to the OLA's records, these guesthouses did not possess licences under the Ordinance on the days of inspection. The man and women responsible for managing the premises were charged with contravening section 5(1) of the Ordinance.
      
     A department spokesman stressed that operating or managing an unlicensed guesthouse is a criminal offence and can lead to a criminal record. Upon conviction, the offender is liable to a maximum fine of $200,000 and two years' imprisonment.
           
     The spokesman appealed to anyone with information about suspected unlicensed guesthouses to report it to the OLA through the hotline (tel: 2881 7498), by email (hadlaenq@had.gov.hk), by fax (2504 5805) using the report form downloaded from the OLA website (www.hadla.gov.hk), or through the mobile application "Hong Kong Licensed Hotels and Guesthouses".
