Lifesaving services resume at Cafeteria Old Beach

     The Leisure and Cultural Services Department has announced that the lifesaving services at Cafeteria Old Beach in Tuen Mun District resumed today (September 5). The lifesaving services at the beach were suspended earlier due to an insufficient number of lifeguards on duty.




Appeal for information on missing man in Tsuen Wan (with photo)

     Police today (September 5) appealed to the public for information on a man who went missing in Tsuen Wan.  

     Ho Chi-nang, aged 76, went missing after he left his residence on Hoi Pa Street on September 3 morning. His family made a report to Police on the same day.

     He is about 1.65 metres tall, 60 kilograms in weight and of medium build. He has a square face with yellow complexion and short grey hair. He was last seen wearing a pair of blue slippers and carrying a black crutch.

     Anyone who knows the whereabouts of the missing man or may have seen him is urged to contact the Regional Missing Person Unit of New Territories South on 3661 1173 or 6331 8151 or email to rmpu-nts-2@police.gov.hk, or contact any police station.

Star-studded jazz concert to celebrate Hong Kong Cultural Centre’s 30th anniversary

     To help mark the 30th anniversary of the Hong Kong Cultural Centre (HKCC), the Leisure and Cultural Services Department will present a jazz concert in November.
 
     Spanning generations and borders, the concert entitled "Jazz Gala – The Legend and Beyond", will be staged at 4pm on November 3 (Sunday) at the Concert Hall of the HKCC, bringing together prominent jazz musicians to jam and recreate various jazz styles. Local musicians from different generations will collaborate with overseas artists to create a borderless soundscape through jazz. Details of the concert are as follows:

     Various demonstration workshops and jam sessions (conducted in English) will be held from 1pm on November 2 (Saturday) at the seventh floor of the HKCC's Concert Hall Backstage. Red flag hoisted at Upper Cheung Sha Beach

     The Leisure and Cultural Services Department announced today (September 5) that due to big waves, the red flag has been hoisted at Upper Cheung Sha Beach in the Islands District. Beach-goers are advised not to swim at the beach.




Acclaimed local pianists to perform “Perfect Ten” concert in December

     A quartet of acclaimed Hong Kong pianists will perform in a concert entitled "GENK and Friends – Perfect Ten" in December to help mark the 30th anniversary of the Hong Kong Cultural Centre (HKCC).
 
     Gabriel Kwok, Eva Lue, Nancy Loo and Tam Ka-kit, aka GENK, will play Johann Sebastian Bach's "Concerto in A minor for 4 Pianos" under the baton of Sharon Choa and the accompaniment by the Chamber Orchestra of The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts (HKAPA). The quartet will also collaborate with six other veteran local pianists – Enloc Wu, Margaret Lynn, Betty Woo, Eleanor Wong, Poon Chui-fun and Choi Sown-le and perform an array of works including Brahms' "Hungarian Dances", Dvoƅ™ák's "Slavonic Dances", Wilberg's "Fantasy on Themes from Bizet's 'Carmen'" and the world premiere of Julie Kuok's "Merry Collage 3X" for five pianos.
 
     Gabriel Kwok has been Head of Keyboard Studies at the HKAPA since 1989. A Fellow of the United Kingdom's (UK) Royal Academy of Music since 2003, he was awarded a Medal of Honour by the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government in 2014 for his contribution to piano education.
 
     Eva Lue received her musical education from the Royal College of Music in the UK, earning scholarships and prizes. She has devoted much of her time in pedagogic and adjudicating work in recent years and is currently a teaching staff member of the Department of Keyboard at the HKAPA.
 
     Nancy Loo is one of Hong Kong's most versatile artists, recognised as a pianist, radio programme hostess, actress and writer. As a pianist, she has given solo recitals and performed with orchestras in the UK, Europe, North America and Asia. She currently teaches the piano at the HKAPA and the Chinese University of Hong Kong.
 
     Tam Ka-kit is a former piano professor at the Royal Northern College of Music in the UK. Now residing in Canada, he has made various concerto appearances with local orchestras and has played extensively in many parts of the world as soloist, chamber musician and accompanist.
 
     "GENK and Friends – Perfect Ten" is presented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department. It will be staged at 8pm on December 27 (Friday) at the Concert Hall of the HKCC.
