Yuen Long Swimming Pool temporarily closed

     Here is an item of interest to swimmers.

     The Leisure and Cultural Services Department announced today (December 12) that Yuen Long Swimming Pool in Yuen Long District has been temporarily closed for cleaning and superchlorination following the discovery of a small amount of vomit in the pool.

     It will be reopened at 7.30pm today.

     The department appeals to swimmers to be considerate and to keep the swimming pools clean. They are advised not to swim after a full meal and should use the toilet facilities if necessary before swimming.

Fatal traffic accident in Yuen Long

     Police are investigating a fatal traffic accident in Yuen Long this morning (December 12) in which a 53-year-old man died.

     At about 7.20am, a private car driven by the 53-year-old man was travelling along San Tin Highway towards Yuen Long. When approaching Mai Po Tsuen, the private car was suspected to have broken down. When the private car driver alighted from the car for checking, a medium goods vehicle (MGV) failed to stop in time which rammed into the rear of the private car and pushed it forward. A container truck also failed to brake and rammed into the rear of the MGV.

     Sustaining serious bodily injuries, the private car driver was certified dead at scene. The container truck driver was injured on his leg and sent to Pok Oi Hospital for medical treatment in conscious state.

     The 65-year-old male MGV driver and the 50-year-old male container truck driver were arrested for dangerous driving causing death. They are being detained for further enquiries.

     Investigation by the Special Investigation Team of Traffic, New Territories North is underway.
