General out-patient clinic services during Chinese New Year holidays

The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:

The Hospital Authority (HA) today (January 24) announces that in view of the increased demand during the winter surge in public hospitals, the general out-patient clinic (GOPC) service will be enhanced during the Chinese New Year holidays. An addition of over 1 400 consultation quotas will be provided during the Chinese New Year holidays. A total of 17 clinics (see table below) will remain open to meet the service needs of the public and alleviate the service pressure of Accident and Emergency (A&E) Departments during the holiday.

The HA spokesperson said the Accident and Emergency Departments in public hospitals will operate as usual during the holiday to serve patients with urgent medical needs. Amid the winter service surge of public hospitals and the expected increase in A&E attendance in the first working day following the holiday, A&E departments will accord priority treatment to patients with critical and emergency conditions as assessed under the established triage system. Semi-urgent and non-urgent patients might have to wait longer for consultation. The spokesperson appealed to non-urgent patients to consider seeking consultations at GOPC, private doctors or the 24-hour clinics of private hospitals.

The spokesperson also reminded the patients who have joined "The General Outpatient Clinic Public-Private Partnership Programme" (GOPC PPP) to consider seeking consultation at the corresponding private doctors by using the two additional subsidised quotas during winter surge. Those patients with clinical indication would be provided with free antiviral drug prescription. Relevant information can be accessed from the GOPC PPP website www3.ha.org.hk/ppp/gopcppp.aspx?lang=eng. Besides, to find an appropriate family medicine doctor and related clinic service of their choice, the public are welcome to browse the Primary Care Directory of the Food and Health Bureau at www.pcdirectory.gov.hk.

To facilitate public understanding of public hospital services situation during the winter surge, HA has launched a designated website (www.ha.org.hk/goto/wintersurge/en) and also the mobile app of "HA Touch" to provide some key information including A&E waiting time, A&E attendances, medical in-patient bed occupancy rate and hyperlink to private healthcare services websites.
