Yemeni government airlifts nationals from Sudan to Yemen

AL-MUKALLA: Yemen’s internationally recognized government on Sunday began airlifting home hundreds of Yemenis stuck in Sudan.

The Yemeni government, and emergency committee, which oversees evacuation efforts in Sudan, announced that 179 Yemenis arrived in Aden, Yemen’s interim capital, on Sunday on the first of the direct flights from Port Sudan with national carrier Yemenia Airways.




Arab News/YouGov poll surveys where Palestinians stand on Nakba’s 75th anniversary

LONDON: More than half of Palestinians surveyed still support a two-state solution as the answer to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, while a majority no longer feel that they are represented by neither Fatah nor Hamas, and three-quarters believe the current Palestinian leadership is incapable of reaching a peace deal with Israel. 

These are the key findings of a new Arab News/YouGov survey to mark the 75th anniversary of the Nakba. 




Younger Palestinians less interested in the ‘cause’? — not according to Arab News-YouGov findings 

DUBAI: A YouGov survey of Palestinian residents of different ages shows that younger people are far less likely to support a two-state solution: the creation of an independent Palestinian state alongside the state of Israel.   

The survey, a special Arab News-YouGov collaboration, showed that Palestinians between the ages of 18 to 24 make up 42 percent of those who support the idea, while more than 63 percent of those above the age of 45 are willing to support the initiative.  




Syria extends opening of 2 border crossings with Turkiye for quake aid

DAMASCUS: The Syrian government has agreed to extend by another three months the use of two border crossings with Turkiye into the rebel-held northwest that were opened for aid delivery after a deadly earthquake in February, Syrian and UN officials said Saturday.
Syrian President Bashar Assad had agreed to open the border crossings at Bab Al-Salameh and Al-Rai for three months to allow aid to flow into Idlib province a week after the Feb. 6, earthquake that hit southern Turkiye and northern Syria.



Blasts rock Khartoum as warring sides affirm humanitarian pledge

KHARTOUM: Airstrikes pummeled Khartoum on Saturday, with representatives of Sudan’s warring factions meeting in Saudi Arabia for talks to prevent a “humanitarian catastrophe” as the fighting entered a fifth week.
