UN chief condemns Israel’s excessive use of force during Jenin assault

NEW YORK CITY: UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on Thursday condemned Israeli authorities for their excessive use of force during a two-day raid on the Jenin refugee camp in the occupied West Bank this week.

At least 12 Palestinians were killed during the operation, including five children. In addition, more than 4,000 were forced to flee, and houses, apartment buildings and other infrastructure were damaged.




Arab Organization for Agricultural Development seeks Egypt support for Lebanese fish farms

CAIRO: The Arab Organization for Agricultural Development has requested Egypt’s support to strengthen fish farming in Lebanon.

The matter came up during Thursday’s talks between Egyptian Agriculture and Land Reclamation Minister El-Sayed El-Quseir and an AOAD delegation led by Director General Ibrahim El-Dukheri.

El-Quseir stressed the importance of cooperation between his ministry and the AOAD during the meeting, adding that Egypt offered all its agricultural expertise to fellow Arab states in implementation of the directives of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi.




Charity suspends ‘vital’ medical aid in 2 Mosul hospitals

MOSUL: Medical charity Doctors Without Borders announced on Wednesday the suspension of “vital” medical activities in two hospitals in the war-scarred city of Mosul, blaming Iraq’s bureaucracy of delaying the delivery of supplies.

“Essential medical activities have been suspended at two health facilities … after stocks of medicines and supplies ran critically low,” according to an MSF press release.

The group’s activities are crucial for the major city in northern Iraq, where the health care sector is struggling to recover from years of war and neglect.

NEW YORK CITY: Israel’s assault on the Jenin refugee camp in the occupied West Bank this week, which killed at least 12 Palestinians including five children, might constitute a war crime, UN experts said on Wednesday.

Houses, apartment buildings and other infrastructure were damaged during two days of raids on Monday and Tuesday, and more than 4,000 Palestinians were forced to flee.
