UAE minister named among Time’s 100 most influential people in AI

LONDON: An Emirati minister has been named by Time magazine as one of the 100 most influential people in the field of artificial intelligence.

The list highlights leaders, innovators, shapers and thinkers “who are shaping today’s AI landscape.”

Omar Al-Olama, 33, was appointed the UAE’s minister of state for AI, digital economy and remote work applications in 2017.

He was recognized by Time in the “shaper” category.




Dubai to host Business and Philanthropy Climate Forum during COP28

LONDON: The UAE will welcome more than 500 policymakers, business leaders and philanthropists from around the world when it hosts the Business and Philanthropy Climate Forum on Dec. 1-2 in Dubai.

The aim of the meeting is to advance cross-sectoral progress toward net zero and nature-positive goals, the Emirates News Agency reported on Thursday.

Attendees will discuss key priorities such as ensuring a fair energy transition, accelerating technology transfer, de-risking green investments and enabling effective nature conservation investment, it said.




UAE to host global climate summit for faith leaders ahead of COP28

LONDON: Abu Dhabi will host a global summit for faith leaders on Nov. 6-7 to highlight the critical role of faith communities in combating climate change, Emirates News Agency reported on Wednesday.

The two-day summit will take place ahead of the 28th Conference of the Parties of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change, COP28, in Dubai from Nov. 30 to Dec. 12.




Moroccan parliament senate delays trip to Israel due to illness and says he will return

JERUSALEM: Morocco’s senate president has postponed a historic visit to Israel due to a medical emergency, the Israeli parliament announced Wednesday.
The announcement came just a day before Enaam Mayara was scheduled to visit Israel’s Knesset, or parliament, on a trip aimed at cementing the fledgling ties between the two countries.
Mayara was to be the first Moroccan official and one of the few Muslim leaders ever to set foot in the Knesset. The parliament had planned to greet him with a red carpet and a ceremonial guard of honor.



Algeria’s chief of staff discusses security with CIA director

AlGIERS: Algerian chief of staff Said Chengriha and US CIA Director William Burns “expressed their common will to strengthen cooperation and coordination on security fields” in a phone call, according to a defense ministry statement released on Wednesday.
Algeria and the United States are partners in the fight against terror in the Sahel region.
