LegCo Panel on Education visits Parliament of Finland (with photos)

The following is issued on behalf of the Legislative Council Secretariat:

     The delegation of the Legislative Council (LegCo) Panel on Education continued its duty visit in Helsinki, Finland yesterday (September 11, Helsinki time) and visited the Parliament of Finland.

     The delegation started the day by visiting Töölön Upper Secondary School.  Members were briefed by the Principal, Ms Pirkko Majakangas, on the upper secondary education system of Finland. 

     Members of the delegation then visited the Parliament of Finland and exchanged views with members of the Education and Culture Committee of the Parliament of Finland on key issues and challenges in education.

     The delegation also attended a lunch meeting hosted by the Second Deputy Speaker of the Parliament of Finland, Mr Juho Eerola, to gain a better understanding on the latest development in rules and practices of the Finnish Parliament.  Members then toured the Building of the Parliament of Finland and observed the proceedings of the plenary session.

     The delegation then departed for Oulu, the largest city in Northern Finland, in the evening.

     The delegation will visit the University of Oulu and its Teacher Training School, today (September 12, Helsinki time).
