Hospital Authority welcomes Policy Address

The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:

The Chairman of the Hospital Authority (HA), Professor John Leong, has welcomed the healthcare initiatives in the 2019 Policy Address delivered by the Chief Executive, Mrs Carrie Lam, today (October 16).

Professor Leong supported the Government's initiatives to strengthen primary healthcare and support for patients with uncommon disorders. The HA will fully collaborate with the Government to implement new services and sustained initiatives.

Professor Leong said he was delighted to learn that the Government will establish more District Health Centres to enhance primary healthcare services and the public's capability in self-management of health. "The HA will work along the directives and further enhance primary healthcare services in public hospitals," Professor Leong said.

To dovetail with the Government's initiatives to strengthen support for patients with uncommon disorders, the HA will examine the setting up of databases for individual uncommon disorders, to enhance public awareness and support in regard to the patients through the Samaritan Fund and the Community Care Fund. The HA will also closely monitor the latest developments in research studies, healthcare policy and clinical and scientific evidence in the area for timely introduction of new drugs and treatment for patients with different diseases.

"The HA will strive to work along the Government's policy directives to provide the community with quality healthcare services," Professor Leong added.
