Winning entries of the "Awards for Creative Writing in Chinese 2020" will be on display at Exhibition Galleries 4 and 5 of the Hong Kong Central Library (HKCL) from today (November 27) to December 9. Organised by the Hong Kong Public Libraries (HKPL) of the Leisure and Cultural Services Department, the exhibition will feature award-winning works from the six categories of the competition, namely poetry, essays, fiction, literary criticism, children's stories and children's picture stories.

Forty-eight winning pieces in different genres were selected from over 1 100 entries by an adjudication panel. A list of the winners (in Chinese only) is available at www.hkpl.gov.hk/tc/common/attachments/extension-activities/literature/awards-competition/2020AwardsCreative_Result.pdf.

Moreover, the HKPL will compile the first three award-winning works of each category (in Chinese only) and upload them to the HKPL Multimedia Information System (mmis.hkpl.gov.hk) for the public to appreciate the winning pieces.

The adjudication panel was formed by senior writers, editors and scholars. Their comments on the entries will be consolidated into an Adjudication Summary Booklet (in Chinese only) which will be available at the Reference Libraries at the HKCL, City Hall Public Library, Kowloon Public Library, Tsuen Wan Public Library, Sha Tin Public Library, Tuen Mun Public Library and Ping Shan Tin Shui Wai Public Library for public viewing.

"The Awards for Creative Writing in Chinese", first organised in 1979 and held biennially since 1992, aims to promote creative writing in Chinese and arouse public interest in appreciating literature. The Awards is a major event in local literature and has helped nurture budding writers over the years, with some of them becoming significant authors and scholars in Hong Kong.

In view of the latest situation of COVID-19, the HKPL will implement special arrangements and precautionary measures. For details, please visit www.hkpl.gov.hk/en/index.html.
