Overview of the main subjects to be discussed at meetings of the Council of the EU over the next two weeks.

Foreign Affairs Council, Monday 10 December 2018

Foreign ministers will discuss Iran, the Western Balkans, EU- African Union cooperation, Ukraine and Venezuela.  

General Affairs Council, Tuesday 11 December 2018

The Council will discuss the next multiannual financial framework, prepare the December European Council and approve its 18-month programme. Under Article 7(1) TEU, it will hold a hearing on the rule of law in Poland and exchange views on the respect for EU values in Hungary.

European Council and Euro Summit, Thursday 13 & Friday 14 December 2018

The European Council on 13-14 December 2018 will focus on the EU’s long-term budget, single market, disinformation, citizens’ dialogues and external relations. The Euro summit is expected to take decisions on the reform of the economic and monetary union.

Agriculture and Fisheries Council, Monday 17 & Tuesday 18 December 2018

The Council is due to decide on 2019 fishing opportunities for the Atlantic and North Sea and exchange views on a progress report on the post 2020 CAP reform package, as well as the updated EU bioeconomy strategy.

Transport, Telecommunications and Energy Council (Energy), Wednesday 19 December 2018

The Council will exchange views on the Commission’s strategy for long-term greenhouse gas emissions reduction. Ministers will be informed about the state of play on the clean energy package, the Connecting Europe Facility and the gas directive.

Environment Council, Thursday 20 December 2018

Environment ministers will discuss the LIFE programme, CO2 emission standards for trucks, and the EU’s new climate action strategy for 2050.

Regulation on cross border access to e-evidence : Council agrees its position

To protect its democratic systems and public debates and in view of the 2019 European elections as well as a number of national and local elections that will be held in Member States by 2020, the EU is presenting today an Action Plan to step up efforts to counter disinformation in Europe and beyond.
