Lyell Centre closure

The BGS’s Edinburgh office at The Lyell Centre has been closed today (28 February) and staff sent home due to severe weather and poor travelling conditions.




BGS accepted as a member of IGSN

During the recent International Geo Sample Number (IGSN) General Assembly meeting in New Orleans, USA, the BGS was elected as one of IGSN’s newest members. Other new members elected during the meeting were Australian National Data Service (ANDS), US Geological Survey (USGS) and IFREMER (France).




New projects see UK space firms tackle global challenges

Improved disaster response in Commonwealth states and tropical disease control are among the goals of 10 new projects involving British space organisations, Science Minister Sam Gyimah announced today.
A new BGS-led project is: Modelling Exposure Through Earth Observation Routines (METEOR): EO-based Exposure, Nepal and Tanzania Grant: £2.8 million.




National Geoscience Data Centre awarded the CoreTrustSeal Accreditation

The National Geoscience Data Centre (NGDC) is now certified as a trustworthy repository and has been awarded the CoreTrustSeal accreditation by the joint World Data Systems (WDS) and Data Seal of Approval (DSA) repository certification bodies.
