Protestors blocked roads and set fire in Causeway Bay and Wan Chai

     At around 3pm today (July 1), some protestors suddenly blocked roads in the vicinity of Causeway Road in Causeway Bay and moved miscellaneous objects such as trash and cardboards to the carriageways, causing obstruction to the vehicles which were forced to stop. There were also crowds who blocked roads and occupied multiple lanes on Hennessy Road in Wan Chai. They dismantled banners on the roadside and threw them to the carriageway. Some rioters even blocked the road with railings and rubbish bins and set fire to the barricades, seriously endangering public safety.

     Police warn the crowds to stop all illegal acts immediately. Police will take resolute enforcement action including making arrests.




Public hospitals daily update on COVID-19 cases

The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:

     As at noon today (July 1), ten COVID-19 confirmed patients (case number: 1069, 1108, 1118, 1122, 1125, 1148, 1150, 1158, 1165 and 1170) were discharged from hospital in the past 24 hours. So far, a total of 1 117 patients with confirmed or probable infections have been discharged.
      
     At present, there are 602 negative pressure rooms in public hospitals with 1 170 negative pressure beds activated. A total of 82 confirmed patients are currently hospitalised in eight hospitals, among which one patient is in critical condition (case number: 595), and the remaining 81 patients are in stable condition.
      
     The Hospital Authority will maintain close contact with the Centre for Health Protection to monitor the latest developments and to inform the public and healthcare workers on the latest information in a timely manner.




Police arrested over 70 persons including two for violating National Security Law

     Since noon today (July 1), crowds have been gathering and chanting slogans in the vicinity of Causeway Bay and Wan Chai, breaching public peace. Some even dashed across the roads, blocked the lanes and set fire on barricades, obstructing traffic. As at 4pm, Police have arrested over 70 persons, including two for suspected violation of the National Security Law.
      
     Police warn the crowd to stop all illegal acts immediately. Police will take resolute enforcement action as to maintain law and order.




Police arrest over 30 persons in connection with illegal acts in Causeway Bay

     Since noon today (July 1), crowds have been gathering and chanting slogans in the vicinity of Paterson Street, East Point Road and Great George Street in Causeway Bay, breaching public peace. Some people even dashed across the roads, causing disruption to road traffic. Police have adopted a measured and restrained approach throughout, repeatedly reminding the crowds that their actions have already violated the Public Order Ordinance and the National Security Law. Police have also warned them to stop gathering and leave immediately. However, some refused to obey Police instructions. In response, Police took law enforcement action and arrested more than 30 persons for suspected unlawful assembly, violating the National Security Law, obstructing police officers in due execution of their duties and possession of offensive weapon, etc.
      
     Police warn the crowds to stop their illegal acts immediately. Police officers will remain on heightened alert and continue to take resolute law enforcement action against any illegal act.




Early closure of some LCSD facilities in Wan Chai District

     The Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD) announced today (July 1) that due to special circumstances nearby, swimming pool, tennis courts and bowling greens of Victoria Park, Causeway Bay Sports Ground, Lockhart Road Sports Centre, Morrison Hill Swimming Pool, the Hong Kong Central Library and Lockhart Road Public Library in Wan Chai District have been closed. Queen Elizabeth Stadium will be closed at 4.30pm.

     Subject to the situation, more cultural and leisure facilities in the same district and any other districts which may be affected will also be closed early and at short notice to ensure the safety of venue users. Members of the public who plan to go to those venues are advised to contact the venues concerned or 1823 in advance.
